Pilot_paul_r
I hope this finds you all in good health, Before I say anything, I know that what I am about so say will most likely never happen for a thousand reasons, but let a guy dream for a minute. Imagine for just a second if we had a full fidelity U-2 in DCS. Just imagine the pure flying joy of getting in such an aircraft. Imagine being able to say you mastered the world's hardest virtual aircraft. Imagine the various mission profiles you could fly across the great, strategic maps we have in DCS. I think it is at least worth a little discussion; even though, it will never happen. I understand that the aircraft is far too secretive to ever be produced by a developer, and that it would be considered a "boring" weapon system by some who typically lob Fox 3s into fur balls, but for those of us who think critically I think it would be an awesome strategic asset for users in a multiplayer environment. Imagine the GCI/AWACS being able to direct CAPs and Strikers into precise areas even when fog of war is on due to the Dragon Lady's roughly simulate sensors. From a pilot's perspective it would be magnificent. Especially during the "launch" and landing phases of operations. Much like Jester in the Tomcat, I imagine a virtual safety pilot right behind you as you brought down the beast at Al Dhafra, an actual U-2 base. Then a feeling the aircraft fall to the left or right as an F-250 drives by to insert the pogos. If the Yak and Eagle II can make it in DCS I am sure a U-2 can too, if only there was a chance. I know this will not happen, but it is a fun thought.
Yurgon
Certainly would be an amazing addition to DCS.
Svend_Dellepude
Could be fun indeed, but you would probably get shot down a lot. :) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Win10 64, Asus Maximus VIII Formula, i5 6600K, Geforce 980 GTX Ti, 32 GB Ram, Samsung EVO SSD. Emmy
I’m wondering which “strategic maps” the OP has that the rest of us don’t? notproplayer3
Of course, but to be honest I think we can all dream about it, I'm pretty sure lots of plane modules will be made before the U2 theoretically gets a module. I can dream too... Full fidelity su27/mig29 ?

Rick50
A partial solution: Try a civilian flight simulation. They've all/mostly had U-2 aircraft for them, both freeware and payware. Now... they won't have all the bells and whistles you might expect compared to the DCS Hornet, but they'll fly much like the real ones, and you can take "recon pictures" from up high. I used to do that in __2004, But the new sim comming out later this year from the big MS, features incroyable terrain visuals, and promises to simulate lift vectors on the fly... sooner or later someone will make Dragon Lady for that one, if it's done well that could go some ways to your dream! I used to fly in P3D V2-V4, but man that is that platform a money pit. If you want it to look good you'll spend hundreds of dollars, then Lockheed will just create V6 so you will have to start again to stay with developers. It has been about a year since I last flew on P3D, but I used to dream about getting 30 fps ha! Terrible program from my experiences. It is such a long shot, tons of other aircraft that should be made before spy planes.

Pilot_paul_r
Could be fun indeed, but you would probably get shot down a lot. :) Just like the real one! Even if it just AI, you could have some fun escort missions in Eagles, Hornets, M2Ks, Vipers, you name it. Even an AI bird would be fun to intercept as RED force. Worth some thought. MiG21bisFishbedL
Actually, does anyone know much about the operational ranges that the Black Cat Squadron undertook? Reformers hate him! ngreenaway
Yawn. Pretty plane, but like a lot.of other strategic aircraft , not really a compelling plane to fly in dcs...much like any strategic aircraft , be it a c-5, a b-52, or a u-2. It would be wonderful to look at but as exciting overall as "watching paint dry simulator" Its not that idont lke the u-2, its a beautiful aircraft in a way that very few aircraft are. Nor is it that i want to lob spaamrams- i have yet to bother with any BVR engagements . I do think non-combat aircraft have a place in dcs but honestly , the missions done in strategic aircraft are more appropriate for xplane than it is for dcs Not all aircraft make compelling sim experiences , no matter how enthusiastic we are about the real thing. ngreenaway
but for those of us who think critically I certainly hope it was unintentional, but this comes across as rather smug, and a condescending swipe at those who may disagree with you (those who don't share your vision are implied to be incapable of critical thinking). It's one thing discuss the various pros&cons to airframes. Alongside speculating on the next mod or complaining about bugs & progress of developing new features, debating aircraft favorite pastime for people to do here. We all prefer different aspects of flying however, so it's uncalled for to make inferences or qualitative statements of the preferences of your fellow pilots.
