The DCS Updater GUI Utility

Hello ... Beginner here... This looks like an epic tool! But what command line stuff should I know about? Beyond rolling out mods with JSGME then saying "yes" when DCS says there's an update, then rolling them back in, what else is there? I don't mean to minimize your work, I am asking a naive question. If there is a place where I can RTFM the answer I'm good with that!

SkateZilla this is an awesome idea, I've tested the v02.06.2016 and everything fine with my DCS v1.5.3 Stable.

As you I have many modules but when I click on "Re-Detect Installed Modules" nothing and of course the modules are checked and already installed.

One idea or it's normal ?

In fact it's would be cool to have checked the module already present with our DCS...

Suppose you had problems with updating etc and had to use the cmd prompt.

Suppose you had to rummage through files to find the .exe etc.

Suppose for a moment you are not that savvy with computer file systems.

Application Goal is to Provide a GUI for Users as an Alternative to Command Prompt Command Lines.

Probably not within the scope of this utility, but since I use JSGME to add and subtract mods, it would be nice to have two icons referring to my two JSGME folders so that I can delete/reinstall mods before I update DCS. Just a wish.

Right now, I dont have time to integrate other 3rd party utility functions.

Future, maybe, but not anytime soon.

-Allowing Users to Update to a Specified Version/Branch

I added it for Personal Use, Originally,

-Possible Layout changes for some buttons (Campaigns Etc)

Still testing the Code, but it's an Advanced command line,

And I'm not sure if I want to leave it functional as it will cause problems if used incorrectly.

(ie A User Downgrading their install to a version prior to when the modules They own being Supported.)

Do you think there is a way for you add a link on the window that would point to this tread, to see if there is an update ? Or maybe make the updater check for updates for itself itself (Reading that sentence back, I'm not sure it's clear ;) ?

I compile it locally and attach a zip to the main post in the thread, there's no "updater" integrated.

I will prolly add a link to the thread though.

Some Small Updates:

Latest Version (4-29-2016) will also work w/ installing SA342 on DCS 1.5.3 as well so no need to compile a new version.

However I have adjusted my development branch a lil, since the last few updates to Visual Studio have removed some core code functions I was using, I started a new project w/ slightly different underlying code, visually function will remain the same.

This new Branch when finished will have new layout and a larger Main Screen (Current one is 1130x750), I may choose to do 1920x1050 (ie Pretty much Full screen Window), depending on how much space the new Module Icon Graphics take.

-Individual Module Buttons will be bigger (wider),

-Individual Buttons will be easier to identify (will have more than just Icon)

-Check boxes Better placed

-Re-Sorted Categories etc.

I will also be adding Buttons for each module to activate/deactivate which will launch the Starforce console for the module for user to activate/enter serial, or de-activate prior to hardware changes, etc.

I will NOT however be adding the commands to remove starforce data from registry.

Also, the advanced Update Options (ie Update to Specific Version/Branch) wont be in this version either.

I still haven't decided if I want to include it or not due to problems that arise when it's mis-used, would be better to not open that can of worms.

I may adjust the code to be more than a Single Window, but not sure if I want to make it more complex, as simplicity is what makes it easier to use.
