MSAA artifact?

I'm seeing a faint vertical lines artifact mainly when over shallow water. It doesn't happen over deep water or land.

It only seems to occur with MSAA 2x. If I add SSAA 1.5 or bump MSAA up to 4x it goes away. I'm on today's open beta release but I've seen this since the last update. I tried rolling back nvidia drivers to 411.63 but no change. Running the latest drivers now (417.22).

Is anyone else seeing this? It's most noticeable in PG map when over shallow water. Roll the aircraft and look out the side to see it.

More testing and I've found that-

No MSAA = water artifact

MSAA 2x = water artifact

MSAA 4x = water artifact

SSAA 1.5 = no water artifact

Still testing trying to narrow down what is causing this.

OK, this seems to be related to the water detail level. At low I get no lines but flashing textures on the water. Medium and High settings produce the vertical lines shown in my screenshot.

More testing and this appears to be pixel inversion artifacts on my LG 32GK850G display.:mad::mad: The inversion test on testufo.com is a blurry mess with vertical lines on the LG.

I tested with two other 1080p displays I have and can't reproduce the issue so it doesn't appear to be a DCS bug.

Well i have a 1080p display and everything is ok. So...

Actually, if I set my resolution to 1080p on my 32GK850G I don't see the issue either. I'm still confused as to whether it's DCS or something to do with my monitor. I'm only getting the problem at 1440p though.

On the map N44 and the Caucasus I this defect could not emulate the 1440p resolution of the monitor. If you have better results with a lower resolution than the native, try to change the value to 8x for anisotropic filtering.

@petsild Thanks for the tip, unfortunately setting AF to 8x doesn't resolve the issue. The only two things that fix it are setting resolution to 1080p or enabling MSAA 2x + SSAA 1.5. - I was thinking it was pixel inversion on my monitor I was seeing but now I think it's just a DCS bug.

Since the last update or two SSAA performance has gotten better. I'm able to run MSAA 2x and SSAA 1.5 and maintain 60 fps @ 1440p. It looks great so I'll stick with this option for now.

It appears the new transparent water in the PG map is bugged. Hopefully ED will acknowledge this. I'll wait and see if some more people show up and can confirm the issue @1440p.

I also have this issue and it has been mentioned several times in the forums...I dont think it might be a problem with your monitor.

Has it been reported as a bug? I've only started seeing this since the last update or two.

Well, if it was an issue with your monitor, it probably wouldnt show on screenshot, right? Im interested in that LG too, do you have similar problems in other games? What about caucasus map?

You're right, inversion artifact shouldn't show in the screenshot so I'm certain it's a DCS bug with the new transparent water. Old style water in Caucasus map doesn't have the same problem.

I've tried several different monitors and TVs over the last couple years for DCS and the LG 32GK850G is my favorite so far. I run it at 60hz, fps locked at 60 and with Gsync its very smooth. Much better fps with 1440p vs 4k also. 100% scaling is pretty much perfect at 1440p with 32 inch as well.
