The autoupdater works just fine. The issue is the 24hr period for how often it checks. If you played DCS the night (less than 24 hours before) before an update and then start DCS when you see the post about an update, it will probably not check for an update because it has been less than 24 hours since the last check.

 

If you play a lot, at least daily, then using the manual updater (from the Start Menu) is the best course of action.

I'm thinking of re installing 1.5 but which version is more stable, 1.5 or openbeta?

The open beta is 1.5.

DCS Panavia Tornado (IDS) really needs to be a thing!

2.0 open alpha is for the Normandy and the Nevada map. It is used to test the new graphic engine and maps.

 

1.5 stable version is the public version which should have not too much bugs when a new version is released. Only for Caucasus map.

 

1.5 Open beta is the test version to discover bugs and fixing them before the update goes to the stable version. Only for the Caucasus map too.
