Oh, it's Merlin powered version allright. Mk XVI ser. number RW386 to be exact.

The pilot keeps the hand forward because he flips both mags only during cranking, than moves the hand backward to adjust throttle when the engine catches. He doesn't touch the mixture lever, because he doesn't need to, it's already in run position. The plane can (and in the wartime was) started with the lever forward before cranking. We can't do it in DCS though - one of inaccuracies of the module.

You're correct about the fuel cut off lever, and the engine......it's a Packard Merlin 266.
