dburne
Question: what happens with your 256GB drive, then? I was on 250GB for a few years and then upgraded with another 250GB drive, which is worth considering if you want to get away a lot cheaper. Drives are not normally something that you'll want to throw away (cost inefficient and comes with many security concerns), so either you go 500GB or you go 1250GB. I already have two of them. One is for my games, the other has Windows 10 and some assorted Oculus games on it. When I do a new build, I will certainly not be throwing them away. Will just have a larger SSD for my gaming drive. cichlidfan
I still have my first SSD. It's only 60GB but it makes a nice portable drive (though I actually don't know where it is, at the moment). ;) However, if you do want to throw one away, the security concerns are easily dealt with (just like with platter drives). Just drill a hole in it. I should note that glass platters are messy when you do that. BitMaster
I dissamble them down to the last screw, sort it for recycling and burn or acid the platters. Got a 250kg magnet too, good tool. Took 3 laptops apart yesterday, C2D and P4's, collect it over a few years and then sell it for some hundred € on eBay. Done that multiple times. Good money. BTW, that's how my son got into PC hardware, with 2y I gave him a screwdriver, a DVD-ROM and showed him what to do, with 3y he could almost take it apart, and not only that omg. It's also for me the easiest way to get preoperly rid off that stuff, the guys wont pick up a complete PC for trash. Svsmokey
Depending on # maps , modules , campaigns , liveries etc , figure roughly 60-160 gb . But don't run too close to the overall limit ! Temp files , pagefiles , download space requirements and ssd's preference for a margin mean i would not consider less than a 240gb drive for a DCS- only installation . Thanks. I forgot about "maps" etc. I've got 4 so far and that includes Persia....and a bunch of Aircraft and Super Carrier etc. So, I figure when I get the new laptop I will be using I'll dedicate the 512 SSD it comes with to DCS, and buy a large HDD Sata to stick into the other slot for everything else. FYI I've got a 512 SSD on my G3 laptop and DCS has eaten up about all of my storage space. And I only have about 8 plane modules and a couple of campaigns loaded. Been having to delete other programs or games every time I want a new module. As of now I'm down to 2 other games besides DCS. I'm getting ready to build a new desktop and plan on getting TB size HDs for it.

BitMaster
256GB is getting too small with all those new maps and modules. Rather 512GB or even more. reece146
Yep, just installed ANOTHER 1TB NVME last night so I can move Steam and MSFS away from the C drive where DCS is installed. It's getting larger and larger and having both Stable and OB... plan for 1TB just for DCS I say.
