DCS World Patch Notes Discussion Thread

Do you really think they whipped up all those fixes since the rage thread?

Isn't it more likely that these things had been in the works for a while, like Ron said?

I'm not suggesting that all these were coded in the last week, no. However I take anything Ron says with Dead Sea quantities of NaCl.

And we have a new community manager who is actively posting and engaging the community in the last week.

Also, a similar thread for Mig-19 managed to get the ADF radio bug fixed in couple of weeks, after a year and half of it being neglected.

So while I don't think the community unhappiness caused yesterday's bug fixes to be magically coded in the past week, I do think it spurred on active development for the module and probably got many of them put into the update queue.

... Or perhaps it's just a timely coincidence.

However, whatever the reason, it's great to see yesterday's patch for the Harrier, and I welcome such progress enthusiastically.

I've been downloading the new OB for the past 6 hours, why the @*&^#*! did they stop using torrents? 'Im assuming that's why it now takes about 30-40 times longer than before? That's not an improvement at all. Sorry I still feel like a noob after one year of playing DCS.

I have not tested it but if you're right I don't mind it as long as it track alright and can destroy its target.

AIM-120 missile. The probability of countermeasure spoofing returned to the old value.

I'm little bit dissapointed by this after few testing both SP and MP because the Amraam is now more susceptible to chaffs , no idea why ED did it. Have not found a thread discussing why this was necessary.

Here is ED's reasoning for rolling it back

https://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=4368210&postcount=8027

In short, it was an unintended side effect of changes to the CCM scale

Ya, it's amazing what some torches and pitchforks can accomplish, which years of waiting patiently seemingly cannot.

Many/Most of the additions/fixes were already sitting waiting before the pitchforks were sharpened and torches lit...

There's entire thread with this discussion on russian part of the forum where A LOT of people accused ED that they buffed AIM-120 (and complained about its chaff resistance in particular). There were plenty of english-speaking folks who asked questions and read replies with Google Translate in this thread (and complained about AIM-120 too of course).
Here is ED's reasoning for rolling it back

Too bad I don't speak Russian. Well... What can I say as I'm clueless at technical stuff like that lol. Its time to adjust how I fly with or against the Amraam.

It's good they had them ready to go then. Their timing on these was both impeccable and desperately needed.

Glad it's moving forwards.

(Incidentally, and I know this isn't the correct forum for this, but whenever I hit preview post, the editor seems to add extra carriage returns. Does this happen to anyone else? And if anyone has a link to a solution could you send it my way? Cheers)

Community Managers...Can you please ask when the Stable version of 2.5.6 will be done?

I really would like them to get back into that groove of open beta...fixes the bugs...and release to stable. it's been 2 months

Stable user here, yes the wait is tough, but I imagine if next weeks OB patch goes well, we could have one by October the 7th. This however assumes that the A-10C II module goes off without a hitch. So I'd estimate around mid-October realistically.

Modules I own: F-14A/B, Mi-24P, AV-8B N/A, AJS 37, F-5E-3, MiG-21bis, F-16CM, F/A-18C, Supercarrier, Mi-8MTV2, UH-1H, Mirage 2000C, FC3, MiG-15bis, Ka-50, A-10C (+ A-10C II), P-47D, P-51D, C-101, Yak-52, WWII Assets, CA, NS430, Hawk.

Terrains I own: South Atlantic, Syria, The Channel, SoH/PG, Marianas.

System:

GIGABYTE B650 AORUS ELITE AX, AMD Ryzen 5 7600, Corsair Vengeance DDR5-5200 32 GB, Western Digital Black SN850X 1 TB (DCS dedicated) & 2 TB NVMe SSDs, Corsair RM850X 850 W, NZXT H7 Flow, MSI G274CV.

Peripherals: VKB Gunfighter Mk.II w. MCG Pro, MFG Crosswind V3 Graphite, Logitech Extreme 3D Pro.

Granted that I fly the DCS Hornet almost exclusively - Yesterday's OB update seems like a really good one!

Thanks for all the work, ED Team!

PS - Love parking the sim in F3 view and flying the hornet around RC style... listening to that "Hornet-Howl" at that sweet-spot airspeed. :)

"Effects. The Speed smoke and fire was improved."

I was under impression we are getting the new effects. I haven't noticed any improvements.

Also inverted mouse camera for external view doesn't work now.

look at the destruction of a airplane for example...

What do you mean, like when it slams the ground? I thought speed smoke was this:

Edit: Never mind, there's an answer in the unofficial roadmap thread:

The all-new explosions, fire and smoke effects are also nearly finished and now being fine-tuned. Will be released "soon".

Fingers crossed it makes it in OB this year.

I really hope it's ALL NEW... emphasis on "ALL".

Looks like they've been updating effects over the years but few at a time and now there are like 6 or 7 different particle systems. Hope the new one replaces *ALL*. Not just add another system to the mess.

Anyone know what this means?

I can't see any difference in my testing.

I bet it allows for more flexible FARPS: aircraft landing on public roads close enough to a FARP should be able to refuel/rearm with this change. Did you test if this works?

I hope they go for better splash/fragment damage representation, especially for area effect weapons like Cluster Bombs or rockets, before they do eye-candy that does not improve the weapons effects.

Currently dropping CBUs or using rockets against infantry and unarmored vehicles is doing far not enough damage, unless you score a direct hit with a bomblet or rocket. Against infantry this is, let's say difficult.
