I had one conflicting assignment and that laged quite a bit when the assignment were activated. May be something to check if stutter/freeze when pressing buttons.

Thanks for the suggestion. Double checked my control assignments, no double controls, nothing funny there. Removed all the unnecessary assignments, like some of the DCS default hat assignments for view controls, as I'm on TrackIR (or Oculus) so those are not used.

Gave it a try and got first stutter within couple of minutes of game play.... and few minute later a complete game freeze. This lasted for what felt like an eternity, but was perhaps like a minute or so. Then Windows dialog DCS is not responding.

Killed DCS from that dialog. No crash dump generated. Just a normal log file.

I'm attaching the log here. Again log looks like :puke: full of ERRORs from DCS, mostly sound related but some graphics engine related too!

I'm asking myself is this reporting of logs even useful??? No response so far from mods or devs here :dunno:

In my case the stuttering is continuous, every 0,5 seconds or so and very notable in CAS A-10 instant action mission or Ka-50 weapon practise for example. I think it is something related to other units in the map, because in free flight instant action missions there is almost no stuttering. I have DSR on, with DSR off stuttering is almost gone.

In log file I have lots of lines like these ones:

The freezes appear when someone is joining the server and get much worse when a player takes a plane.

The stutters disappear almost completely after setting the visibility range to Low. It helps with the spotting too.

Whereas I also do have a feeling that there seems to be some kind of relationship with stutters & freeze with people joining (or perhaps also disconnecting) multiplayer server, in my case I also do get stutter & freeze in single player e.g. Normady Bf-109 instant action free flight. Sometimes I can fly there trouble free for 30 minutes, sometimes I get complete game freeze within a minute or two.

So, for me it is not only a multiplayer related issue. Most likely there are still several issues / bugs with the DCS 2.1.1 causing the stutters and freeze. Perhaps some with the generic graphics engine, perhaps some with the multiplayer aspects.

b.t.w. I have tried several settings that I have found on the forums. Also what you have on your signature amazingme, so thanks for documenting those , but unfortunately nothing has worked out for me so far.

I do sometimes get a good sortie or two without any problems, but most of the time it is unfortunately quite the opposite.

I also noticed that I get a smoother playing after doing a Restore in Nvidia CP. I'll try a SP session to see what's happening in there too.. I'll report later.

updated to new 385.12 beta drivers from nVidia.

Still the same. Few minutes of game play and unrecoverable Freeze.

This time on Burning Skies server, game froze and I timed out from the server :(

i.e.still pretty much unplayable to me.

Logs folder and dxdiag attached.

Still having these problems :(

I know it's alpha SW and for sure it is worthy of its name. Very unstable.

If I play for couple of hours I get several game freezes.

Here is what Fraps Benchmark sees during a mission on the BurningSkies server.

G-Synch'ed to 100. Fairly steady FPS around 100 - 80 and then a few bad stutters and then a complete game freeze. Game graphics engine just Froze for about 75 seconds until disconnected from the server.

Fraps says;

Frames, Time (ms), Min, Max, Avg

52267, 617906, 0, 104, 84.587

I say; Still No Joy :(

...and unfortunately it has been like this for couple of months already.

Here is an another FPS graph based on data from Fraps.

About 67 minutes of game play i.e. a bit more than an hour.

Burning Skies server.

During about an hour of game play 7 times FPS drops to Zero.

Twice for more than 20 seconds, once for about 6 seconds, rest a second or two...

and of course the flight ended in a crash due to a >20 second game freeze during a dogfight :(

I keep dying more due to unreliable game engine than enemy fire.

Was the problem acknowledge or no one care? I looked everywhere and can't find anything

Not sure. In the Game Crash thread in the 2.0 Bugs section, it was mentioned that the Devs were aware of the crash issue now, but I thought it was brought to their attention many weeks ago.

I can’t say no one cares, but when I reported it, I just got the usual ‘it’s beta and it will be improved’ or ‘it’s your system that’s not up to the job’ type response.

I know it’s not my system, but, what can we do?

It's ED's job to get their engine to work better with the map and assets, the map is made up of

, optimization of the map assets has to happen from the get go when building each 3D object.

ED is not going to stop optimizing this new Engine any time soon guy's, of course they do care, they have put a few hours work in developing this new engine I do believe.;)

It's just not a 5 minute job finding the right balance for all the different systems out there, (many rewrites and changes of code) plus trying to move forward with their new technology that's in alpha, and trying to really step up the performance for 2.5 and beyond.

Think about all the different options in DCS now, plus the new ones that are added, these all need to change to different levels per user and possible hardware setup.

It's definitely coming guy's, they may needed to go back and rewrite some code to move forward again, nature of the beast when working on cutting edge tech, yes it can be frustrating at times.:(

what is being refactored/rewritten does use multi-threading where possible.

atm the major parts which do it are:

resource loading and other I/O (logging, input, ffb ...), integrity checking, sound

w/o rewriting the engine, splitting simulation into a separate thread from the graphics will benefit it most - which will be, in fact, the mentioned client-server approach, just inside the app.

Yes, you're right. I guess we're all just frustrated at the wait for 2.5. DCS just goes from strength to strength!

Hi all

I've grab a signifiant performance boost fps , and less less stutter with this program

free to try : process lasso.

you can priorize performance and priority on any active processus / programs.

DCS and XP11 is really more smooth now.

signifiant boost on my system win7. don't know if it is as much spectacular on a win10 system, also ...it's free for testing. give it a try maybe.

Thanks for the suggestion. I have tried earlier (perhaps 4-6 weeks ago) to set the processor Affinity simply via the task manager (both in Win7 or in Win10), but no help for the game freeze.

I downloaded yesterday the process lasso and gave it a try. Unfortunately, no help for the game freeze. Still during what must have been 2-3 hours of game play, I had 5 x game freeze > 20 seconds. Sometimes I survived, sometimes not. Once I had to kill DCS from task manager.

What kind of settings in process lasso are you using and claiming significant performance boots?

I tried simply default settings, tried setting up both Track-ir and DCS to high priority and additionally tried setting DCS process affinity to 0,2,4 & 6 or 2,4,&6 or 3,5&7. No clear improvement. Still had a game freeze > 20 sec.

It might be that there was a minor improvement for small stutter, but difficult to say based on just few hours of game play and playing around with the settings. Could be just a placebo effect, would have to do some more controlled and measurable testing to say for sure.

Please note that I am not fps performance limited in my system, when it runs stably I have good fps. >75, most of the time g-synch limited to 100, with both GPU and CPU not running at 100%.

To me the problem is game freeze or game crash and some minor stutter (which in my view should also not occur, but is of course just a minor problem at least until the game freeze and crash issues are resolved).

To me DCS 2.1.1 game engine is still buggy and I’m waiting for ED development team to address this. So far no matter what settings or options or PC configuration I use, DCS 2.1.1 still stutters and freezes.

If anybody has any recommended ways to resolve this, please let me know.

Hi all.

here are my settings. first experiments wich works good with my actual config ( note sure if optimal see my actual config in sign )

Right click on the process dcs.exe in Lasso

Priority class --> always --> High + in the same submenu Windows dynamic acceleration checked

ES priority --> always --> High

Memory priority --> courant --> normal / always --> low ( not very sure on that one ... experiment yourself )

+ in main menu ( right click on process )

check " classify as High Performance process"

I gain about 10 fps in DCS and XP11 with this awesome soft.

ALSO be aware that you can have some malware using your processor thread and priority. do a complete clean Up.

In process lasso you can have a look on suspicious process with abnormal using processor.

This piece of code is quite good, because no matter the Bios settings : in Bios you can only force activate or desactivate intel boost and hyperthreading. this piece of code allow to priorize process, memory access for a specific prog.

hope it can gives you a help and a better experience in Dcs.

Thanks for the settings.

Unfortunately also with your settings (and with trying to play around with the memory priority and cpu affinity) I still do get game freeze on the Normandy map.

Attaching logs in case this would give any useful information to the devs.

Here the DCS froze up completely. I killed DCS from the task manager after about 4-5 minutes of game freeze.

Pretty much the same errors in the logs as in all the previous logs I have been attaching here.
