razo+r
be faster if you are too slow, you will get the line in the middle of the HUD and there's always the speed indicator on your SHKVAL
JG14_Smil
HUD is indicated airspeed and needs ram air to work. Shkval is calculated airspeed.
m1tp2king
What does ram air mean?
P3CFE
RAM = Airpressure buildup in the pitot tube by forward airspeed (ramificated air) If the forward airspeed is to low the hud switches to low speed mode ie Hover..
Looney
Or, your INS hasn't aligned yet because you've started up too fast or forgot to turn it on. The INS needs some time to get ticking, once it does though, your speed will show in the HUD and you know the INS is aligned and ready. Holton181
Thank you Looney. I have wondered about this as well for a long time (too minor issue and too lazy for me to ask myself, thank you m1tp2king for doing it). The ram air explanation doesn't fit, since I can fly above 200km/h GS without a reading on the HUD a while after startup, and when it finally appear (it always does eventually) I can go down to almost hover speed and still have it. I can't remember if I have checked the IAS any time when this happens, but I assume it's driven by ram air + ambient pressure exclusively, without the INS being involved. BaD CrC
Or sometimes, uncage the skhval, then cage it again to reset the HUD flight mode, and it makes the airspeed back, sometimes. https://www.blacksharkden.com http://discord.gg/blacksharkden
M1Combat
Or just watch the IAS dial??? 1 Nvidia RTX3080 (HP Reverb), AMD 3800x Asus Prime X570P, 64GB G-Skill RipJaw 3600 Saitek X-65F and Fanatec Club-Sport Pedals (Using VJoy and Gremlin to remap Throttle and Clutch into a Rudder axis)
Looney
IAS is just that, it doesn't show you ground speed. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Commodore 64 | MOS6510 | VIC-II | SID6581 | DD 1541 | KCS Power Cartridge | 64Kb | 32Kb external | Arcade Turbo
Holton181
But so doesn't the HUD either for what I understand. Or am I wrong? My experience is that the HUD correlates more with the IAS than the GS on the ABRIS. Pocket Sized
Or just watch the IAS dial??? But steam gauges are ugly! DCS modules are built up to a spec, not down to a schedule. In order to utilize a system to your advantage, you must know how it works.
Ranma13
IAS is also useless under 50 km/h. You need to look at either the speed on the HUD, which is from your INU, or the ground speed on the Abris, which is from the Glonass satellites.
