Acces violation crash

Quidding

Recommended Posts

Hi, iv been having this issue with random crashes playing dcs. I have tried numerous things to get it to stop, including reformating, reinstalling the game and /or drivers etc.. The same issue keeps happening and acording to the crash log there is some sort of memory where something is trying to access something that either does not exist or is not alloed

Does anyone have any experience with this?

i am running a i5-8400 6core 2.8GHz cpu with gtx 1070 gpu and 16gb of 2666 ram

this is what is in the crash file:

Hello Quidding

Welcome to the forum, sorry to see you are having issues.

As mentioned above check MSI afterburner if it is installed, and I have a guide below for crash advice.

If you continue to have the crash please attach your whole dcs.log here, just rename it to .txt and it will attach.

thank you

I would recommend wiping your display driver and downloading the latest one.

It looks like yours is crashing.

Yeah, i have tried to re install, and roll back, use the newest drivers.. but for whatever reason it is not working that well.. just did a full whipe of the drivers and i am gonna reinstall them. Will give you another log if it keeps happening.

I am however wondering if the drivers crash because they are not getting the required resources fast enough, i noticed that the pagefile is a bit bigger than my total amount of memory

2019-11-14 08:27:27.762 INFO DCS: CPU cores: 6, threads: 6, System RAM: 16302 MB, Pagefile: 18734 MB

of course dcs is a fairly demanding game, so i do not assume i can hold all the resources in my physical memory, but it might be possible that the proscess of fetching information from virtual memory is taking to long?

But again this is not my field of expertice so i might be a bit out of water here:P

You have 16gb RAM and your pagefile is a decent size, it should be ok.

Is you card overclocked at all?

Have you tried using DDU to remove the driver before installing the new one?

Many of us use it for cleaning our drivers before doing new ones, it may help.

Also ensure windows is up to date.

nope i have not edited any hardware

Hello,

Just to try all fixes to be sure:

I had the same issue (Device removed etc) for a long time and tried all sort of fixes but the one who really fix this type of crash was to underclock my GPU with Firestorm (NVIDIA GPU here). My GPU was OC from factory default and i never thought that could be the problem. So, my advice is to try to underclock the Core clock of your gpu a little and then report back if it fix your problem please.

Best regards,

F.

Can I ask you to test by renaming your dcs folder in saved games

C:\Users\rober\Saved Games\DCS.openbeta\

rename to

C:\Users\rober\Saved Games\DCS.openbetabackup

Then restart DCS and login and test, just want to rule out a settings / config / or mod issue.

You can always move your input folder from the old to the new so you dont have to redo your controls.

or if there is no change you can just use the backup again by changing back.

Please attach here your dxdiag report, I suspected your pagefile is too low.

If you keep having problems, even after a reformat, it's most likely a hardware problem.

Can you run other games without crashes? Maybe try some benchmark software to see if that runs.

Is it a new pc or have you played DCS without problems before on this machine?

After i changed my memory and clocked down the gpu i have been having no issues. I still need to test it a bit more to be certain. I will let you know if the issues persist trough this.

I put with the dxdiag here, so let me know what you guys think:) would be fun to understand why this happens and not just a roguh idea of how to cercumvent it..

We do see a lot of users with factory overclocks having issues.

I hope you are getting better results now.

Unnfortunatly neither new memory nor underclocking the gpu seemes to help, as i had another crash today

Dammit. I was really hopefully that will help you.

Just to check, you fly in VR?

  • 3 years later...

Same here. I've been fighting the computeOptimalBarriers issue, installed the last dcs patch (as rolling back didn't work) and tried single thread, reported to be immune from the other issue. Had a crash but the logs indicates this Access violation issue.

Full AMD rig (5800X, 6900XT, 64 GB RAM), freshly updated drivers. Never tried overclocking (nor underclocking). Previously DCS ran fairly stable. I don't do much else an this computer as all my work is done in Linux (same machine but it lives on a different physical disk). Not much other gaming either, and mostly really ancient games.
