Intel or AMD

Recommended Posts

Hi guys

I have been using intel & nvidia duo for aloong time.

But i am planning to replace my granpa 2600k.

I have currently:

500 gb SSD

1 TB HDD

GTX 1070

So, i plan to buy CPU, Ram, Mobo this summer.

I am low on budget so i have two basic options

Ryzen 2600 and i5 8400

My biggest activity on pc is DCS. I also want to keep a chance to upgrade this systemin the future. For instance 8700k maybe 9700k etc.

Which one i should buy? and why?

Both processors are similar, but the intel is 15% faster on single thread performance, so if the overall price (cpu+mobo+ram) is similar, I would go with the Intel one.

You might consider also the core i5 9400f, which is a tiny bit faster than the 8400 and should be cheaper.

For work: iMac mid-2010 of 27" - Core i7 870 - 6 GB DDR3 1333 MHz - ATI HD5670 - SSD 256 GB - HDD 2 TB - macOS High Sierra

For Gaming: 34" Monitor - Ryzen 3600X - 32 GB DDR4 2400 - nVidia GTX1070ti - SSD 1.25 TB - HDD 10 TB - Win10 Pro - TM HOTAS Cougar - Oculus Rift CV1

Mobile: iPad Pro 12.9" of 256 GB

I didn't intend to go amd intentionally, just worked out that way. I'm delighted with my El cheapo b450 Mobo, wasn't as impressed with ryzen2 cpu. Have high hopes for ryzen 3. I think there's an argument for ream red but I'd wait for ryzen3 this July, see if it lives up to the hype.

Ryzen 5600X (stock), GBX570, 32Gb RAM, AMD 6900XT (reference), G2, WInwing Orion HOTAS, T-flight rudder

Depending on what your goals are for your system you may want to consider the i3 8350k. If you're not already I would highly encourage you to pursue a system that is overclockable as DCS really prefers high clock speeds and does not benefit from multiple cores.
