Same textures - Different RAM usage

Recommended Posts

You Answered it Yourself, You're Pushing Graphics Higher than Your Ram Can Handle,

I guess you're not gonna accept the facts of:

-A, Unified EXE Contains both the UI interface and it's graphics, as well as the Simulation

-B. Move to 64-Bit Single Unified EXE Allows DCS to Store More than 4 GB in the Memory before resorting to the Page File

-C. The Update to 1.5.x has had the Textures for Caucasus Replaced w/ Higher Resolution Textures.

-D. DirectX11 And new effects have Higher resolution and more textures.

-E. Like I Stated Before, Things Have Changed from 1.2-1.5 in regards to visibility and GFX Options.

-F. Just because you are in Cockpit View, does NOT mean the Engine isnt loading the Terrain Textures and Textures of Any other objects in the mission, goes back to Point C.

EVEN ON LOW, IT'S NOT THE SAME AS 1.2

Note the 1.5 Options in RED.

1.2:

Low =
   {
       near_clip = 0.2;
       middle_clip = 4;
       far_clip = 150000;

       structures = {30, 2000};
       trees = {1000, 1500};
       dynamic = {300, 20000};
       dynamic2 = {300, 20000,0.5};
       objects = {3000, 80000};
       mirage = {3000, 20000};
       surface = {10000, 50000};
       lights = {50, 10000};
       districtobjects = {100, 100};
       districts = {2000, 2000};

       lodMult = 1;
       lodAdd = 100;
   };

1.5:

    Low =
   {
       near_clip = 0.02;
       far_clip = 150000;

       structures = {100, 12000};
       trees = {1000, 1500};
       dynamic = {300, 12000};
       dynamic2 = {300, 12000,0.5};
       objects = {3000, 80000};
       mirage = {3000, 20000};
       surface = {20000, 80000};
       lights = {200, 40000};
       districtobjects = {400, 400};
       districts = {8000, 8000};

       lodMult = 1.0;
       lodAdd = 0;
   };

My guess is also that textures contain more layers now, include specular layer same as external skins. And as they are same resolution as texture layers, it will add to image memory size.

No longer active in DCS...

I see what your sayin', will look into any changes to LUA that will help with cockpit blurry textures on low, buf this maybe a result of going from DX9 to DX11, new engine, some items were disabled or removed until matured. etc.

the issue is with everything going higher resolutions, its gonna use more ram, cockpits, externals, terrain have all seen boosts in textures on new modules,

The terrain itself has changed significantly from 1.2 to 1.5 and is in fact higher resolutions.

Out of curiosity, whats your preload radius set at?

The textures for A-10C Cockpit from 1.2 to 1.5 are about the same, what is not the same is some of the AI Externals, Environmental Effects/Shaders (all are loaded regardless), and AI Vehicles Ground Objects etc.

This includes, Airbases, Buildings, Static Objects etc, the Terrain option is for the terrain textures only, "Textures" Effects everything else,

You can see this in your screenshots clearly on the Ground textures top left outside and through the hole in the bottom of the cockpit.

I'll look on my end for a pattern and report to devs if I find something conclusive.

I don't think it is RAM related, you have upgraded and still seeing the issue.

Can you do a dxdiag report for me, and attach it here

DXDIAG

1. click on "START"

2. click "run"

3. type in "dxdiag" and click "OK"

4. check through the tabs and perform all tests

5. click "Save all Information..." and save the text file to a location of your choice

6. attach this text file to message in the ticket.

I asked for the dxdiag this time so I could take a closer look at your device drivers.

sorry if I did not make that clear.

It's the same just 16 gb ram now.

Game was fine before update 5. And yes, I had 16gb before update 4 aswell.

Your problem has been persistant, its safe to summarize that something isnt right,

Looking at a Detailed DXDIAG will tell the devs every driver version and every device driver being loaded by Windows.

Whether its a driver conflict or a memory mapping issue.

The Problem you are having is not tied to the Update 5, you were having this problem before Update 5 and before you upgraded your ram.

Other than Vague Specs listed in that post, it does not tell developers anything.

And I've Stated Before that your GPU is Bare Minimum and you have Shared Memory Set,

GDDR5 RAM and DDR3/4 RAM have drastic differences in Bandwidth and Speed, as they are designed to do 2 Different Tasks, when you go from GDDR5 to DDR3/4 You'e gonna notice severe hits in FPS.

I have exactly the same issue, DCS 1.5.3.x is unplayable for me, stutter fest, everytime I spawn a plane it took me around 2min to look around me, freeze after freeze, to finally be able to see around without too much stutters.

If I zoom : Freeze

if I look to an other plane : Freeze

It's just terrible guys.... I don't know what to do anymore, even with my new GTX970 :/

thanks

edit:

Which usb headset are you using? just noticed it is using windows generic driver for it

have you tried the latest drivers for your 970?

worth updating your realtek High Definition Audio driver as well
