Help optimising DCS please!

Recommended Posts

Hi all, I'm struggling to find a balance between performance and looks in DCS, my specs: i7-7700 CPU, gtx 970 GPU, 16GB DDR4 ram, I have the game on my HDD but I also have a SSD but I have almost no space on it. I run the game on high settings and turn grass/clutter, terrain quality, preload, down, I can run Nevada well but Normandy constantly stutters between 30-60 fps. I'm a little disappointed because I just spent a bunch upgrading the CPU and Ram. Anyone have suggestions as to how I can improve performance? Oh and VR runs terribly on either map, constantly stuttering.

Specs: i7-7700, 16GB DDR4, GTX 970, win 10 x64, TM HOTAS warthog.

Modules: F-5, M-2000C, FC3, Mustang, Spitfire, Mig-15, Combined Arms, Black Shark.

GTX970 is certainly why your VR experience is rubbish. Non-VR are you using a 1080p monitor or are you using a 1440p res screen? Either way with the new high detail maps such as Normandy I would suggest replacing the old 970 for something like a 1070 or 1080 or the equivalent from the red team. The problem with the 970 is that it only has 3 and a bit GB of RAM onboard. Get a card with 6-8GB of RAM.

I would certainly also suggest getting an extra SSD to put DCS on.

There are definitely some topics already posted on the game settings and what items within settings are best used to get better performance.

Also the Normandy map is still being worked on so further optimisation/performance improvements should be on the way.

cheers mate, yeah I'm currently saving for a 1070 (or 80 if the price drops) and lol I'm using a tiny 1600x900 monitor from like 2010. I figured the monitor is the lowest priority on my agenda because its only about 15 inches and at 15 inches the differences between 900 and 1080p are negligible.
