frequent stutter & freeze

I was using program called LogExpert (http://logexpert.codeplex.com/) on my 2nd monitor while online mission on ACG Normandy server.

The LogExpert is basically like unix tail, which always shows you the end of the log.

This allowed me to play and as I got stutter I could see if there were some dcs.log entries written at the same time to my user\Saved Games\DCS.openalpha\Logs\dcs.log

I had once pretty bad stutter as I was approaching a low level dog fight involving a Dora and a Spit;

The log showed at this time;

00249.988 ERROR   VFS: Can't open file //models/tracer_bullet_green.edm.json.
00250.028 ERROR   VFS: Can't open file //models/tracer_bullet_white.edm.json.
00307.229 ERROR   VFS: Can't open file //models/tracer_bullet_yellow.edm.json.
00385.163 ERROR   VFS: Can't open file //models/tracer_bullet_red.edm.json.

I do not have files called like "tracer_bullet_green.edm.json" anywhere on my DCS installation.

There are files called like "tracer_bullet_green.edm" in C:\Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World 2 OpenAlpha\Bazar\World\Shapes

i.e. without the ".json" file name extension!

Is this a bug in the ED code? to be trying to read wrong files?

or is this a problem with my game installation???

Do other users see this? Do you have these files on your installation?

A bigger problem was that I had several 2-5 second game freezes.

At this time the dcs.log was appended with the following log entries;

03104.425 DEBUG   SOUNDER: create personnel/pilot.lua
03104.425 DEBUG   SOUNDER: dofile("CommonAlg.lua")
03104.425 DEBUG   SOUNDER: dofile("Tools.lua")
03104.425 DEBUG   SOUNDER: created host MAIN_16780038/main, id=219
03104.425 DEBUG SOUNDER: created sounder MAIN_16780038 as 428

05768.052 DEBUG   SOUNDER: create personnel/pilot.lua
05768.052 DEBUG   SOUNDER: dofile("CommonAlg.lua")
05768.052 DEBUG   SOUNDER: dofile("Tools.lua")
05768.052 DEBUG   SOUNDER: created host MAIN_16784134/main, id=178
05768.052 DEBUG SOUNDER: created sounder MAIN_16784134 as 457

...and finally a game completely froze for > 1 minute. I got disconnected from the server and the dcs.log got appended with;

06095.906 DEBUG   SOUNDER: create personnel/pilot.lua
06095.906 DEBUG   SOUNDER: dofile("CommonAlg.lua")
06095.906 DEBUG   SOUNDER: dofile("Tools.lua")
06095.906 DEBUG   SOUNDER: created host MAIN_16784390/main, id=187
06095.906 DEBUG SOUNDER: created sounder MAIN_16784390 as 458
06095.913 INFO NET: disconnected from server

What is this "SOUNDER"???

What can cause this what looks like being a complete re-initialisation of the sounder MAIN?

I'm getting horrible stutter or a complete game freeze as this happens.

I really wih we could get some answers to this issue. The Epsom Campaign in Normandy is unusable for me with all the freezes and stutters.

This is a real problem. I just bought Normandy and "upgraded" to 2.2.0 so that I could play it. I don't know if this problem is a Normandy or 2.2.0 problem but it IS a problem.

It presents for me much the same way as it does for RedShoes.

It does kind of bother me that, coming here after experiencing this and hoping to find some help, I scanned through 11 pages and several months of post and it doesn't appear that the developers have acknowledged and are working on this. Only a couple of people (not developers as far as I can see) stating that it is somehow the people who are experiencing the problem that are somehow doing something to cause it.

The developers NEED to address this. Acknowledge it, offer some solutions (real not the crap that has been doled out here), and fix it.

I am a little annoyed and dismayed that I have dropped almost $60 on a Normandy Map WWII weapons pack bundle that is basically unusable for me and I come here and don't see any indication that the people I bought them from even care about the problem.

Hello,

I had the same problem as you, and it's all gone since the new Nvidia Driver (390.65).

Well I think so, I just played 1 hour with the Mi8 and the Mig15, before this new driver DCS was freezing every 20 seconds, now I can fly freely, and re-learn to fly (I qui 10 years ago ;) )

Hope It will be the same for you!

Ok, semi-necro thread, I know, but I'm bringing it back up because everything RedShoes is saying happened to him in 2.1.1 is happening to me in 2.5.0 release and 2.5.1 open beta.

RedShoes, you still out there? Did things ever get better for you? I've done pretty much all the same testing you did with all the same results.

The only difference between you and I is you state that some of your freezes would unfreeze after 3-30 seconds. Mine never does. Once frozen, all the way frozen. I have to Task Manager it to kill it or wait for the System Not Responding error to close it that way.

Doesn't matter what I'm flying or what map I'm on - It freezes air frame, every map
