Reduce gun smoke

Hello,

Is there a way to reduce the gun smoke ? It's way too much

Renaming the file PFXSmoke2.fx didn't help ( the game didn't start it )

From outside view it's a bit too much, but from the cockpit it seems to me very OK.

In fact it's easy to do :

Edit shell_table.lua and add, for both M61 white and yellow tracer, the line : "scale_smoke = 0.9," (without quotes) just after the line : "scale_tracer = 1,"

0.9 is the value I choosed for now but use what you want. On this screenshots 1st is original, than you have value 0.5, 1, and 1.5.

I personnally also disable tracers, using values of GAU-8 for tracers, as I don't see them in RL videos.

Yep I can see on your video that Viggen NEEDS tracers for A/A ..... without it no way to aim....

M61 original tracers values are : "tracer_off = 3," and : "scale_tracer = 1," - I use the values of A10's GAU-8 wich are : -100 and 0 instead of 3 and 1 - this way M61 has no tracers wich is what it looks (? maybe optionnal relative to operation ?) in real life.

EDIT : I also (lol I'm putting dirt on this great Aircraft) change the gun sound from original VulcanEndIn.wav and VulcanIn.wav, in folder : C:\Pierre\Jeux\DCS World OpenBeta\Mods\aircraft\FA-18C\Sounds\Effects\Aircrafts\FA-18\Cockpit\, by the GshG.wav and GshGend.wav, located here : C:\Pierre\Jeux\DCS World OpenBeta\Sounds\Effects\Weapons\Automatic\, using JSGME. This way the gun sounds more like real one in term of pitch/noise (its more high in pitch and speed). But I'd like to find a more real-like sound and I also wait for what will be final Eagle Dynamic's M61 sound for F-18 with low rate of fire and high rate of fire different sounds.

So, it's not possible to have the same tracers, as the Viggen on this video - at min. 7.21 ?

Yes of course it's possible to make the tracers looks the same as Viggen : just try to put Viggen's value for tracers in the M61 and it should do the trick.

In theory choosing the good values you could make them the color and size/scale you want.

I don't knwo what is in DCS the name of Viggen's guns - it should be ADEN 30 mm gun pods but in shell_table.lua I don't know wich it is .... Maybe I don't have it listed because I don't own the Viggen.

So I can't tell.

F-86 Sabre

I'm not sure, but i think, the m39 is the cannon from F-86 Sabre

I'd like to have the F18, with the same tracers.

if you think the smoke is too much now, wait till the barrel/muzzle sparks are added.

The Smoke Density is Accurate, I've seen F/A-18s (C,E,F) Fire their guns in person.

I reduced the smoke, it looks way better

Now I'm trying to replace the smoke tracers, i like the F86 and the Viggen ones, but I'm not sure how to do this

If you have problems with the Hornet's gun smoke being "too much", go and try the F-5E-3 instead

You'll learn how to shoot aircraft guns in no time instead of just squeezing the trigger and waiting for the spray to hit anything
