The Big Show questions

Hi guys, just started flying the Big Show. Wow a lot of love and attention went into this.

Have posted in Reddit about this but thought I would bring this here to.

Mission 2, in RTB my engine keeps failing on me. I have flow this 3 times and same result.

So was wondering @Reflected if you built in failures? I looked at the miz file and it is not helpful, I assume because it is paid.

It looks like I might be letting her run to cold. All temps are low, I am cruising at 1800 RPM, with 0 boost and bam, flames and no power.

The last time I flew the mission, I was very strict on myself and would not go past 2700 / 2800 and boost at about 8 sometimes pushing to 12 but back off quickly when hunting a new target.

Because I thought I might be to cold, on RTB this time I tried to keep RPM up a bit more and was zig zagging above my flight to stay with them and again flames.

Not sure what it could be and if my settings are right but the flight is very slow to keep up with.

Thanks,

Ross

What altitude are you flying at in the mission?

I don't think you are overheating/ blowing anything, I just think you're loosing fuel pressure.

Up above around 15,000ft (depends on air pressure) you are going to need to make sure you have the high-altitude fuel pressure butterfly turned on (right-front, lower side of cockpit/dash).

Sometimes, if you don't have the electric fuel pump on, you also might need to give the wobble pump a few pushes in order to add some pressure manually to the fuel supply system. The aletrnative to doing this is just to use the electric pump, but that's not receommendeed in the real aircraft (but seems to have no adverse effect in game).

You can also cruise at just under 4lb and 2600 or so RPM very happily.

1800 RPM is pretty low.

If you are escorting slow bombers, use a wide weaving pattern to maintain your airspeed - assumign your orders allow you some freedom i this area.

Besides keeping the engine warm-ish, this does two important tactical things also

1. Allows you to check your 6 and the bombers 6 more often and

2. Keeps your airspeed up, which puts you in a better position when jerry arrives.

Phil thanks for the reply.

I say I blew the engine because there are flames coming out the exhaust.

The altitude on the way to target is between 27k and 30k, on the way out where I have the problem is at about 10K.

I normally run the fuel pump all the time, thinking this was the right thing to do but now I am not sure.

This is not an escort mission, this is just trying to stay with the fighter flight. They are just so slow on the way back, then they speed up, then they slow down, then they crash into anything close to them. Gotta love that AI.

Going to try the mission again now. It is a loon process, Mission 1 all over and then onto Mission 2. With the Warthog stick, this is hell on the wrist.

Thanks,

Ross

So I figured out how to solve this engine problem. I flew the mission again today 3 times, first 2 times engine blown as per my previous missions, so decided I am recording it to show you guys what is going on and hope you can see my mistake. Of course mission success :-)

I did however keep my RPM and Boost up the entire flight and did not do much dog fighting to save the engine which kinds defeats the purpose. Also having to fly around your wing detracts from the feeling of being part of this huge fighter wing. I seriously think the AI planes are a bit to slow and my trying to keep at their pace is causing me issues.
