Assuming you mean 'airplanes in the sky, don't get too excited, he said 'terrain engine'. :music_whistling:

I can spot the aircrafts well past few kilometers (Mig-23 from F-14 cockpit from around 10 km distance) so I don't care that, but I can't get the trees to 'grow up' further than few kilometers.

It is difficult to try guide any missile launched from Su-25A when the targets doesn't show up until couple kilometers in some situations (those literally 'pop-up' like trees).

Perfect timing for the Gen 1.5 headsets coming out this spring!

More like a Gen 5.5 or 6.5, but who's counting...?

This is very promising. I currently run the Rift and have to dial down on quality as we all do.

I am scoping out a new VR ubermachine and am looking at the Asus OC'd Strix 2080 Ti with 32 Gb RAM. Would you more experienced guys go for i7 9700K or i9 9900K for the CPU?

I know DCS does not benefit really from HT and only uses a couple of cores. The i9 runs hotter and I intend to overclock the CPU to over 5 GHz so that is an important consideration.

Please feel free to weigh in!

Looking to get the HP Reverb too, unless the Valve Index is a surprise.

Im doin 9700k / 2080ti

New hotness: I7 9700k 4.8ghz, 32gb ddr4, 2080ti, :joystick: TM Warthog. TrackIR, HP Reverb (formermly CV1)

Old-N-busted: i7 4720HQ ~3.5GHZ, +32GB DDR3 + Nvidia GTX980m (4GB VRAM) :joystick: TM Warthog. TrackIR, Rift CV1 (yes really).

Been quite a ride these last couple of weeks. First the Reverb unveiling, then finally got to download the F14 on stable last night, then we get the announced VR optimisation.

It may be that the optimisation will get to stable branch at the same time the Reverb drops through my letterbox, which would be impeccable timing.

Quandary

So do I refrain from installing the Tomcat for a couple of months until the Reverb and optimisation arrives, for the full appreciation of that cockpit?

The danger is that all three in combination would possibly lead to an involuntary leg spasm which would propel my chair backwards, through the open study door and straight down the stairs.

Still, I would always be able to tell the doctors in the emergency room I had a rough ejection....

System spec: i9 9900K, Gigabyte Aorus Z390 Ultra motherboard, 32Gb Corsair Vengeance DDR4 3200 RAM, Corsair M.2 NVMe 1Tb Boot SSD. Seagate 1Tb Hybrid mass storage SSD. ASUS RTX2080TI Dual OC, Thermaltake Flo Riing 360mm water pumper, EVGA 850G3 PSU. HP Reverb, TM Warthog, Crosswind pedals, Buttkicker Gamer 2.

Aw yeah! 50% increase in performance would be very welcome! :)

Hope we don't have to wait too long for it.

I'm really pleased that ED believe in VR enough to dig down and find the root of the performance optimisations. I rarely fly DCS in 2D any more, but if I ever do it reminds me why I use VR. Thanks Wags and the team.

Bring it on I say, more eye candy more consistent 90FPS.

Control is an illusion which usually shatters at the least expected moment.

Gazelle Mini-gun version is endorphins with rotors. See above.

Currently rolling with a Asus Z390 Prime, 9600K, 32GB RAM, SSD, 2080Ti and Windows 10Pro, Rift CV1. bu0836x and Scratch Built Pedals, Collective and Cyclic.

This news is fantastic, I bought a rift last week and I have to say it is the best thing computer related I have bought since I bought my first DX2-66 back in the early 90's. Hopefully this means I will be able to carry on with my 970 /3770K until the next generation of cards come out which hopefully will be more price friendly.

I think the same - having DCS in VR for me was like (past in 1990) playing with paper planes and getting a PC with Chuck Yaegers Air Combat the next day
