How does real HOTAS work / Wrong DCS Stick bindings?

The Mirage 2000 has a odd HOTAS. How example the SNA baddle is located and how the whole throttle is shaped.

But the stick is more odd thing. As it has multiple baddle that are operated such manner that you flip them up/down and you reveal below them an button. So does the button operate one function when pressed, and second function when the paddle is flipped top of it?

Those pictures are best I have found, as the official manual is little shady about all the real HOTAS functions and DCS Bindings.

As it has separated these "DCS Functions" that doesn't seem to match those.

Example, the manual says that stick button 8 is "Radar Lock", while those graphics tells it is a "Alternate Radio", and the Radar Lock is done with either pressing a Throttle TDC or pressing a Stick SNA when in A/A mode.

And the Throttle says that it has a Radio Switch (No: 1) between Main and Aux Radio Selects, that should be a Radio Button. And the No:5 that is "Police Lights", that should be a Decoy release, while No:2 is set to Decoy release and it should be a Engine Recalculator etc.

Hi,

You're confused and this is normal: there has been 2 variants of the throttle.

The old one was modelized in the module early versions, and was described in the first version of the flight manual.

This old throttle was a reality on old 2000C variant, such as the RDM-equipped aircraft.

The new throttle is the current one IRL, for RDI-equipped aircraft. It's now (and for a long time in DCS) modelized in the module and in the current version of the flight manual (see page 30).

The new throttle is recognizable by a base with more width, and more buttons on its aft-facing face.

When switching from old to new throttle, several other changes (buttons related features) were modified too.

About your question regarding paddles: Only the fire button (1) on your image has a paddle that you have to flip. It's not meant to give 2 different functions, it's meant as a supplementary security mechanism = you have to flip the paddle before being able to use the "fire" trigger. This is automated in DCS (you see the flipping paddle move but there is no specific command for it).

Note that this command was modified: previously it was only for guns (cannons); now it's for all weapons.

About other questions marks on the same image:

(2) on your image is not yet fully implemented in DCS. It works for the vertical nav update, but we don't have yet the ability to change the Magic scan pattern (only the axial pattern is available at this time).

(3) on your image is the trim hat; it works as such when the AP is off or in standby. It works as an order for the AP when it's on (green). Described in more details in the current manual. No paddles here, the 2 functions depends on the AP status.

(4) on your image BRM is an old feature. It's short for Bombes-Roquettes-Missiles as originally those weapons had a different trigger than the guns. Now the trigger is unique and called MICROB for MIssiles-Canons-ROquettes-Bombes. This button is now used for the programmed chaff and/or flares launch.

(5) on your image This "hat" is the special modes command (by the way: no, "SNA" doesn't mean "PCA"; it's short for Système de Navigation et d'Armement). The commands are the "Weapons System CMD" ones in DCS.

(6) on your image = same as (1)

(7) on your image no questions

(8 ) on your image was a radio button at the time of the old throttle, but is now a button allowing to switch between PID and PIC locks.

(9) and (10) on your image no questions

Hi,

Yeah I have been confused about the manual from the launch time, partially that the texts has not matched and the manual doesn't really show the HOTAS so well that you get good idea how its functions works.

Thanks a lot for your helpful information about the stick.

The new throttle is the current one IRL, for RDI-equipped aircraft. It's now (and for a long time in DCS) modelized in the module and in the current version of the flight manual (see page 30).

The new throttle is recognizable by a base with more width, and more buttons on its aft-facing face.

I have downloaded the v0.6 from Razbam site, and page 30 is about "Fuel Flow Cauge and Bingo fuel selector".

And the page 21 that shows the throttle, is still the same old one.

(8 ) on your image was a radio button at the time of the old throttle, but is now a button allowing to switch between PID and PIC locks.

But is that same as the "Weapons system designator" by action?
