AMD Ryzen 3000 "Zen 2" a Memory OC Beast, DDR4-5000 Possible

Recommended Posts

So it looks like ZEN2 is going to resolve the last remaining quirks of current Ryzens, memory speeds...

So up to 16 cores, supposedly up to 5 GHz Core clocks and now apparently also memory clocks up to 5 GHz. :)

Do, or do not, there is no try.

This is vaporware until there are actual independent benchmarks, so far only wishful thinking.

If true - IF - this could get me to switch from team blue to team red. (That and the 7nm process and potential I/O possibilities of PCIe 4). In answer, time for release is supposed to be Q3 this year... in time for the holidays and build up of stocks well before Christmas.

In other words, DONT build a new PC right now if you can help it.

Launch details are expected at computex in the first week of June, and you should be able to buy one by 7/7.

I’ve been following this one closely. This chip is the reason I built on team red 2 years ago with a Ryzen 1600X and a good mobo: I can drop this chip straight into the system I built 2 processor generations ago and see a significant performance boost. Try that on Intel!

the 12 core is rumored to clock faster, up to 5Ghz. That's the one Im aiming at. The CPU's will be released next moth so usually the rumors are very close to be true by now.

Just a side note. Zen+ supports up to 4000Mhz, but I only managed 3533 with absolute high end and ultra expensive memory (the fastest SAMSUNG B die at the time) with most people hitting 3200Mhz right now. So you shouldn't expect 5000, You should expect the 3600 on Zen 2 as a conservative estimate.

I’m aiming for that one too (3700X I think). The top end 16 core is supposed to go to 5.1ghz, but for a lot more money. I’m not sure the extra 0.1ghz is worth the cost, and I can probably get the same or better overclock with the 12 core part anyway.

3700X here as well. This chip seems to be the one to hit the price/performance sweet spot. The 5000Mhz mem clocks are just rumors. I'd take those with a grain of salt. Biostar did release the specs on their Ryzen3000 mobos - X570,etc..sporting mem support up to 4000Mhz and with PCI 4.0 as expected. Can't wait to see some benchmarks.

Ryzen9 5800X3D, Gigabyte Aorus X570 Elite, 32Gb Gskill Trident DDR4 3600 CL16, Samsung 990 Pr0 1Tb Nvme Gen4, Evo860 1Tb 2.5 SSD and Team 1Tb 2.5 SSD, MSI Suprim X RTX4090 , Corsair h115i Platinum AIO, NZXT H710i case, Seasonic Focus 850W psu, Gigabyte Aorus AD27QHD Gsync 1ms IPS 2k monitor 144Mhz, Track ir4, VKB Gunfighter Ultimate w/extension, Virpil T50 CM3 Throttle, Saitek terrible pedals, RiftS

How long do the old chipsets usually stay in stock after the new generation has been released? I'm planning on waiting for the release of X570 and buy a higher middle end X470 at a discount as I don't see much point in buying X570 on release for premium price.

Well, the X370 are still being sold so I think you are ok from this point of view. :)
