Windows 8.1 Mainstream Support ended 9th. Jan. 2018. Extended Support till 2023.

I am not sure if this is a good advice.

VMware WS is mreanwhile at 14..or 15..need to look. Again, running sw out of support.

It may work for you but is imho nothing to promote to others, it's a borderline setup.

no offense

can you explain a bit more?

what settings are you running?

any suggestions how to configure that setup to provide top performance?

Hey i am a old school teacher lost in time but love retro things like linux running on top of windows because there are many internet smart boys that like to show there hacker skills and make smart ads on it.

Got the rig built up yesterday. I'm using an old GTX970 at the moment, while I perform the shake down.

Man, with those NVMe's, this thing is incredible. As of now, with turbo I'm getting 4.9ghz. Plus, the RAM is running at 3200mhz via the XMP1 profile.

I'll finish the shakedown over the next week or two, then pull the GTX1080 from my current rig to put into this new gamer. Plus, I'll read up and see if I want to tinker with increasing the CPU speed a little. (maybe...)

Overall, I'm quite impressed with this setup. To all who've passed on some guidance, thank you!

Now you do know that 9700k and Z390 MB just begs for a 2080 Ti GPU right?

Thanks for starting this thread Jav, Looking forward to hearing how it performs compared to your old system. I am planning a very similar build but with a 9900 in the near future and will upgrade to a RTX2080Ti and the Oculus S at a later date.

A quick update.

Went through the whole DCS deactivate process. Copied over the 168GB's of DCS (beta) data... :-) Did a little bit of trickery with the F-14 control config files, so I didn't have to recreate 'em....(I'll also do with the other modules). Got the Oculus app, Voice attack (and profiles), plus OTT all cool too.

All I can say is, I LOVE this new rig! Flying the Turkey is just awesome, and very smooth!

i7-9700k (@4.9ghz), 32 GB's of RAM (@3200mhz), plus everything running via NVMe's M.2's! Granted, I'm still using my GTX1080, which Don is going to give me grief. :-)

There's still a few things for me to "shakedown" on my new gamer rig, but that's to be expected.

Can't wait for my new Rift S to come in within the next couple of weeks... :-)

Woot! I'm a happy camper!

Thanks again to all the wise Sage's that shared their advice to me! many thanks!

new pc setup, and just reinstalled dcs.

f14, 18 had to remap a few buttons, but nothing like how the harrier is w/ the old "need your keybindings save..". just a fyi if you feel like doing a fresh install of dcs, it was really nice to be able to just jump into the 18 and just see things working like the old a10c w/ warthog.

Do you mean that fresh FA18 had most of the warthog throttle/joystick buttons mapped? I know they have been working on making out of the box experience better. I wonder if I can just reinstall the module?

I ended up going with this. It fit my Den/Desk ergo setup just great. Plus the cable management was great.
