2.5 Size?

Hi pilots I was just wondering if I will need a new SSD for 2.5. I currently have 1.5.8 on a 60 gig SSD and I have a my 2.2 Alpha on a Normal HDD. I want to put 2.5 when it merges onto the SSD as it runs so much better and was wondering is a 60gig SSD going to be enough for 2.5? How will the the merge work also? Thanks guys and happy flying:thumbup:

Wow, Ok then looks like i will be ordering a new SSD. A 120g Minimum by the look of it. I have all maps also every module, except the hawk so far.Probably should go a 240 so i have room to grow. Going to need room for that glorious FA-18 module as well as some other new ones coming out.Not to mention new maps that are on the horizon. Thanks for the help guys:thumbup:

I don't know what I am going to do, I currently have all three versions installed on my gaming SSD but something is going to have to go before I can grab 2.5.

Either both 1.5 OB and SR, or 2.2.

I don't suppose copying all the files of either of these over to a HDD would work, the installer would not know to grab them from new location if just copied over right?

Keep 2.2. and 1.5.8 Stable on the SSD and move 1.5.8 OpenBETA to a HDD - this would give you enough space and you can install 2.5.x

After his delete 2.2, move OpenBETA back to the SSD and run the update for it.

After it you could delete 1.5.8....

(this is what i will do!)

Why do it so complicated? If, on "2.5-day", the release and open beta versions of 1.5 are the same version (like now; 1.5.8.12823.414), you can delete one or the other. It doesn't matter which one, as they are identical at that point. The installer will find your 1.5 and 2.2 files even if they aren't located on the same drive where you are installing 2.5, so if you're low on SSD space, move one or both to a HDD.

Can it just be copied over to the HDD? The 2.5 installer will find the files ok?

Yup. Worked fine last time I tested.

That is great then, thanks!

I will just copy them over to my HDD , then uninstall from the SSD just prior to getting 2.5.

lol why you dont guys move all clients to HDD and install 2.5 in HDD too. after the install you just move your 2.5 folder to SSD and its done... perhaps you want the extra ssd speed to speed up the install?? doesnt seems necessary.

just my 2 cents.

Why install 2.5 to the HDD, then move back over to the SSD? Seems like just going ahead and installing it to the SSD would be the shortest route.

It will only work if you tell it where to look.

In the root DCS directory there is(should be) a text file called dcs_local_source

the entry in mine for 2.2 Open Alpha is

"H:\Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World" which is pointing to my 1.5 instal

Hi,

:) I trust in a proper 2.5 install-routine and the registry

You don't need to move it anywhere as Cibit explained. When you download and exucute the 2.5 installer it will create the dcs_Locale_source.txt, which will have the location of any of your DCS builds. Moving it to another harddrive may cause the installer and locale file to not locate your installations.

If you do choose to move your installation due to space etc. then just cancel the 2.5 installer once it has created the DCS World folder and .exe and simply create/open the dcs_Locale_source.txt and paste the current directory location in there.

No need for any reg edits.

Edit: Unless you want to move it and have it still be playable then yes you may have to edit the registry.

Hmm starting to get a little complex...

Maybe I can get it figured out.

Not really, if you have enough space on your drive to keep 1.5 or Open Alpha or Both + 2.5 (which will be as big or bigger than your current builds) then don't worry you shouldn't have to do anything. But in the case of Blech (and now myself) is I don't have enough space on my drive so when the 2.5 installer starts copying the files over from my current DCS builds I will run out of space, so I will have to move DCS over to a different storage device and that is where an edit of the dcs_locale_source file may be required to make sure the 2.5 updater finds the already existing DCS builds.

Well... i case you dont have space for the 2.5 full and other clients (to copy modules from) in your ssd. AND of course, if the updater cant copy the modules from other drives...

I have a 120 Go SSD with 2.2 and Beta on it.There's only 10 Go left on it...

I can't make big update on 2.2 with this configuration : I need to change my Beta installation to another HD while the update is made (virtual link) to have enough space :(

I hope 120 Go will be enough with only 2.5 installed (before Strait of Hormuz map)
