[FIXED] flaregun toggle function

Recommended Posts

ok, as its now available in beta, i think its time to speak about this again...

it is nice that we can at least shoot flares, but

i would love to see the flare gun removed out of the cockpit with a toggle function.its really covering some important gauges and also the emergency landing gear lever.besides, in the p51, while the socket of its flaregun is modeled as well, the actual flare gun isnt there...

so please please please make the flare gun removable with a toggle function.

I will feature request an option not to load it, but I think it wont be a huge priority. I think removing it in flight isnt as ideal though, I think either you have it at the start or you dont. Unless anyone can show that it was easy to remove during flight and be stowed, it doesnt look like a standard side arm type flare gun.

Why not add simple key strike to make it disappear or reappear? Similar to gun camera in MiG-21. It's not very pretty, but it works... And while we're at it, can we have like five flares? Even the pilot has so many of them attached to his leg ;) Why does he have to decide not to use the remaining two?

Personally I dont like that idea, if you require it there, making it invisible is a sort of cheat, maybe I am being nit picky... but there it is :)

If you dont want to see it, request the ground crew not to load it, but when your own guys start hitting you with flak... well sucks to be you :P

Perhaps it should be there from a historical accuracy point of view but I think it is one of those cases where absolute realism gets in the way of gameplay value. In the real cockpit I'm quite positive it wasn't an issue but it becomes an issue when looking at a screen IMO.

I don't really see how an option to toggle the flare gun on/off would hurt the sim. I mean I chose to fly without a visible pilot body in the cockpit and that is hardly 100% realistic so perhaps a omitted flare gun isn't a big deal. Besides, will the AI units react to flares fired?

What was the SOP for the flare gun for 109 pilots? AFAIK it was normally attached to their flight overalls or life-jacket, so it may well have been up to individual pilots as to whether or not it was permanently attached to the flare chute during operations.

I really dont know, as the one in the chute is attached/secured to the chute, I dont know if you could fire a standard flare gun in the same chute.

Also as its attached, I doubt the pilot could safely or easily remove it in flight. That said, a pilot could easily see around it to, as proven with head tracking.

I am all for making it a loadable option, but I dont think making an invisible on that is still usable is the right idea.

I would like to be able to toggle it on and off as well. While it doesn't bother me as much as I thought it would, it still would be nice to have the option. Pictures on this forum suggests it was otherwise placed in a leg holster so unless the mount requires tools and/or access from the outside I'm all for just hiding it at the press of a button.

I am using an old version of trackir and am unable to look around things, I only have X and Y axis and I use zoom in/out on my stick. So I am also unable to see the gauge to set the 12:30 before start.

Ask Jesus for Forgiveness before you takeoff :pilotfly:!

To me, when it's allowed to hide the pilot body for cockpit visibility reasons, then the same holds for the flare gun. ED should not assume everyone has 6DOF head tracking available.

If ED decides to make it a loadout option only, then maybe some mod could exchange the texture with an invisible one...
