seek
Is there a afterburner indicator on the Viper? Like the three stage one in the AJS-37 Viggen? -Thanks!
Harlikwin
Nozel position. And fuel flow. New hotness: I7 9700k 4.8ghz, 32gb ddr4, 2080ti, :joystick: TM Warthog. TrackIR, HP Reverb (formermly CV1) Old-N-busted: i7 4720HQ ~3.5GHZ, +32GB DDR3 + Nvidia GTX980m (4GB VRAM) :joystick: TM Warthog. TrackIR, Rift CV1 (yes really). Rhinozherous
I also use the Nozzle position. I think it opens only in afterburner. i7-14700KF 5.6GHz Water Cooled /// ZOTAC RTX 4070 TI Super 16GB /// 32GB RAM DDR5 /// Win11 /// SSDs only DCS - XP12 - MSFS2020

danikiko
That's good, I consider throttle handle lifts up as it passes and you use the Nozzle position. for more comfort, Flying is a passion! Warmbrak
Best way (if you don't have a physical detent on your setup) is to monitor fuel flow. When the fuel flow numbers start spinning up like a slot machine, the afterburner has engaged. Usually when the PPH is under 10K, you are in the MIL power or lower range. With afterburner on, it could be well double or much higher than that number.
doedkoett
It would be nice if ED added the sound of the detent being passed, just like on HB´s Viggen, so we who do not have a physical detent on our throttles get a distinkt aural feedback. It is of course no indication of the AB actually being lit, but at least a confirmation of throttle position.

It would be great to have that for the Hornet as well. The Viggen and the F-14 provide good audio feedback when the throttle passes the afterburner gate(s). I think it was determined to not be realistic and thus not implemented when this was brought up for the Hornet. While I agree that it wouldn't be realistic, it is very useful in a simulation environment. There are a lot of things that we don't feel or sense while flying at a desktop PC and having options to compensate for this is always a plus. i5 7600K @4.8GHz | 1080 Ti | 32GB 3200MHz | SSD | DCS SETTINGS | "COCKPIT"

Vatikus
I'll feature request some sort of aural feedback. That would been nice indeed... like some mechanical "thumb" sound as throttle reaches full MIL at which time it hits the AB detent.
Versor
Is their any option in DCS to actually set the AB detent position on the Warthog like it is in BMS / Falcon? I have asked for this many times on the ED forum. Every time when i buy new modules i have to fight with this in throttle setup. I don't understand why ED wan't to implement so good option in our game. I have saitek x-65f and my afterburner detent on throttle never fit with this in game. And i don't know that i have 100% of power or maybe 94%.

I will dip my toe in for the Viper right now and test the waters, I am all for audio cues and such for things you might normally feel, so we will see what we can do. Drahkken
Can we get a boost to the audio of the actual Afterburner sound? I'd think that would be pretty clearly audible inside the cockpit, along with the increased G's and general rattling of the cockpit. As it is, the sound is so quiet I can barely tell it's engaged without looking at the fuel flow. TL;DR: A click when it passes the detent is nice, but I'd love to hear the burner more. I believe pilots have stated that it is pretty accurate not to hear a change, and I think that is the reason for the detent in the first place. Drahkken
I believe pilots have stated that it is pretty accurate not to hear a change, and I think that is the reason for the detent in the first place. Yeah that’s fair. But they also have a boost in their butt when the afterburner kicks on. This is one of those things where sim vs reality is hard to get right. I’ll wait for the detent sound to see if it’s sufficient before pushing more. Thanks NineLine.
bkthunder
Just please don't overdo it! The F-18 sounds just perect IMO, bets internal A/B sounds I've heard to date, and closely matches what we know from RL videos (considering helmet etc.). The F-14 is a fantastic module, but sound wise it's a little overdone. Maybe add this as an option for those of us who like it "as real as it gets"? Awesome, thanks! If the team doesn't want to implement something like that, because it's not something the pilot would actually hear, then that is fine with me as well. I'm usally one of the "as real as it gets" people, but a little audio feedback for the AB detent like in the Viggen or F-14 is fine for me as it is something the pilot would feel IRL. But again, if the team feels like that is too unrealistic I would totally understand :) Just please don't overdo it! bell_rj
>> But again, if the team feels like that is too unrealistic That wouldn't be logical if they did. They've already implemented a game avionics mode which is nowhere near realistic, but simply a way of making the game more accessible. The audio cue idea simply follows that precedent. QuiGon
The game avionics mode is a totally different story and is supposed to make this sim an arcade game.
