Want a DCS Hawker Typhoon...?

Recommended Posts

.. Then we the DCS WW2 community will have to start trawling our repositories to provide the data we can.

For performance data, that can be found here: http://www.wwiiaircraftperformance.org/typhoon/typhoontest.html

Since ED has proven it can compensate for a lack of Wind Tunnel Test Data with Computational Flow Dynamics modelling with the P-47 that this could be used to generate the necessary data.

However, this is an expensive and time consuming process and would be unlikely to be invested in without the further details and references of flying characteristics provided by those veterans who were obliged to fly the Typhoon.

Unfortunately, the numbers of veterans able to give clear, concise and unequivocal specific details seems to be tiny and dwindling. Furthermore, there are currently no flying airframes and concurrently modern day Warbird pilots who have flown them to elaborate on this aspect of the FM.

I therefore propose that those of us with a vested interest in the Hawker Typhoon and seeing it become a DCS module in particular, would be best served by their own hands.

I am assuming those parties who regard themselves as enthusiasts would have access to books, articles and pilot anecdotes on what it was like to fly the Tiffie. As such I suggest that we should re-read our repository and search out any specific nuggets giving details of certain handling characteristics, and what (if any) attitude, airspeed and power settings these are referenced against these.

Any information that reflects the above criteria would then be posted as a reply to this thread, to be used as a potential reference for ED should they choose to model the Typhoon in the future.

I will start proceedings with the following interview by a former Typhoon Test Pilot:

For those interested I wish you luck and thank you in advance. I will trawl my own admittedly limited Typhoon resources to see if I can generate any further useful data.

Great post Fenrir,

Just a thought there are two Typhoon projects currently in the works, one in the UK (RB396) & one in Canada (JP843).

Perhaps it would be worth contacting them, they appear to get in contact with veterans regularly?

Just a thought...

Any Canadians on here that could help, a lot of Typhoon pilots were Canadians?

Hawker Typhoon

Couple of years ago I went to the BBMF members day and this beauty was on display with the expectation of it flying within 2-3 years depending on funding.

That's the Hendon Tiffie - it made a guest appearance at Coningsby on route home to Hendon after being loaned to a museum in Canada:

No plans to make it airworthy.

Awesome, I noticed on your website that Anne Gafiuk is part of your team, perhaps she spoke to some veterans when researching for her novels?

  • 1 year later...

Typhoon/Tempest V would be incredible in DCS, especially as they are a big part of RAF heritage and are pretty much extinct.

However didn’t Nick Grey say modelling the Sabre to the level they want would be difficult as so little exists? He suggested the Tempest II would be much easier with the Centaurus as Centaurus are two a penny. With it’s lack of actual combat the Tempest II just doesn’t excite me as much as the Tiff and V though.

H-24 madness 🤔
