F5-E BLACK SEA RESOLVE '79 Campaign

Recommended Posts

This campaign will test your A2A A2G skills and will try to cover a variety of missions in the late 70’s.

This is a complete 25 mission’s campaign with briefings and kneeboard inserted. Thanks to the guys at CombatFlite for the awesome mission editor tool. Also thanks to crazyeddie for the F-4-E skins. Last but not least. Thanks to my girlfriend for putting up with me for over one year and supporting me when needed and when I was close to drop this dead due to AI and such 

Feedback and criticism is more than welcome as long as we keep it civil. 

I tried to put a set-list that will be close to the late 70’s history but I had to work with the DCS constraints.

The campaign is available here through the DCS store.

April 25th 1978 the USSR Chairman Leonid Brezhnev fails sick and relinquishes the control of the Communist Party. The newly appointed Chairman, Yuri Andropov takes the reigns of the USSR but there is turmoil inside the Communist party. The party is torn between the partisans for the war in Afghanistan and the fractions against it. Andropov opposing the decision to have a military intervention in Afghanistan is losing support and in August 23rd 1978 a successful Coup d'état removes Andropov from Moscow. The country is torn and during this time on August 30, Ukraine declares its independence followed by the rest of the USSR regions.

15th October 1978 Georgia and Krasnodar declare their independence. In the following weeks the communist party is trying to regain control of the former Soviet Union. The 127th Motor Rifle Division seized Tbilisi and reinstates the Soviet leadership. The Division continues north towards Krasnodar but due to the long supply lines and the lack of support from the locals the advance stops before crossing the rivers Pshada, Afips and Bezeps

Under UN intervention,a cease-fire agreement signed on December 20 hoping for a peaceful resolve ofthe conflict.

The former Soviet provinces voice their concern to UN about an escalation of the conflict once the USSR troops resupplied and the weather permits. The UN agrees to maintain a peace keeping force in the region of Krasnodar and NATO forces are tasked to deploy.

The USSR declares that any foreign troops based on the territory of the Soviet Union are considered hostile.

The US president Jimmy Carter fearing a nuclear escalation of the conflict and having a low support after the Vietnam War orders the deployment of a small force formed from elements from 9th Infantry Division, 6th Cavalry AirBrigade and a MEU from 1st Marine Division.

For Air SupportUSAF is preparing 3 F-5E squadrons and 2 F-4E to support the ground forces. The first troops arrive by air at the end of January. Air and sea being the only valid supply route.

Your squadron is tasked to deploy at the beginning of March.

The OperationBlack Sea Resolve is about to begin…

Hey Ralphk,

No voiceovers for now on this one. And I don't think that TACAN navigation would have been available in this scenario. Late 70's in a foreign country I'm assuming that the Nav would have been done similar to Vietnam. A lot of compass and clock and ground references.

ok so i downloaded the files, and i put the folder of the campaign in the DCS/Mods/campaigns folder but it didnt show in my F5E campaigns menu inside the game, the only way to access it was through the mission editor and one mission at a time... another thing is that briefing notes are too small and cannot be zoomed appreciate fixing that or making the files available in a docs folder.... otherwise i really liked the first mission time of day and setting :)

its not showing either... where am i supposed to copy the folder to?

Try going to Mods/aircraft/F-5E/Missions

Create a folder called 'Campaigns' if it isn't there and copy the files into this folder. Now you should find it under F-5E in the Campaign tab in DCS.

One of the best campaigns I've ever played in DCS, congratulations on the great work, I did the mission in both single player and multiplayer with some friends and the campaign was great, thank you.

I never tried this in MP. But i'm glad it works okay. You guys went through all the missions in it?

Cheers,

Sorel

Strangely enough the day you released this final version, I was looking for more content to play for the F5-E, figured I'd check the forums and stumbled on your thread. I am slightly new to DCS, so really haven't gathered the nerve for online and have just been playing singleplayer missions, training, and I had just finished the Maple Flag BFM & ACM campaigns.

I had to make an account just to thank you for the work you put into this campaign. I am on mission 6, and absolutely loving it. Setup a donation link and I'd happily contribute. Cheers!

Thanks a lot man. It's nice to hear that you enjoy it so far. It might get a tad more complicated later on. :)

This one is going to be on the house. Every module should have a freebie in my opinion. My big plan is to have a counter part set of missions on the Red side with Mig-21. The campaign is kind of built around that. If that goes well maybe i'll put it with ED and see if i can sell it as a 2 in 1. F5-E vs Mig-21.

Hey Ralph,

This will take you through a variety of scenarios. AA Interceptions and CAP, there are quite a lot of CAP missions taking you through various scenarios, depending on the ground situation.

You will have AG missions as well. WildWeasel, done the hard way, bombs and rockets and guns. IronHand missions. Suppression of AA and IR threats.

You will have to be involved in SAR missions and provide CAP/CAS.

Just take it one mission at a a time. The missions are doable by a good pilot with good SA skills.

In this campaign you will work a lot with F-4's. F-4's have a longer reach than you so keep that in mind.

Cheers,

… and install the F4-E skins …

Sorry to ask but, what F4-E skins? I've searched older threads related to this campaign, searched user files for skins by that user you mentioned, searched for more files at shared drive, downloaded older versions just in case they were there and spotted the whole current thread but I was unable to find any skins. I guess campaign works anyway without them, but just wondered as it's said in the instructions.

My bad, the archive should have contained the F-4 skins.

They are available for download here.

I'll put another archive together later on today.

Thanks for pointing it out.
