2.5 release new drive same pc

FOXFIRE TWOONE

Recommended Posts

Modules under DCS World 1.5 and 2.2 will not need to be activated. Just do not uninstall DCS World 1.5 and DCS World 2.2 Open Alpha prior to installing DCS World 2.5 Stable, as 2.5 will copy the modules over from 1.5 and 2.2.

Does this apply if installing 2.5 on second SSD drive same computer.

Thank You

Yes - when we get 2.5 it will initially pull all of the files it needs from your existing installations regardless of which drive they are on. So you can install 2.5 on a brand new SSD/HDD and it will simply copy over the files from different locations that it needs. I intend to do this myself.

FoxFire, I can't see why it shouldn't. From your PC point of view, it's just some new software being installed on different partition, while DCS updater has its own ways of telling where the previous installs are located.

What if the new SSD has it's own OS via dual boot?

I have DCS and all my modules on a Win 7 boot. I now have a dual boot to a new SSD that will be using Win 10 for DCS 2.5

Will this work? I don't care if I need to download all the files, but can I still have 2 versions installed on the same machine with 2 dual boot Operating Systems (Win 7 and Win 10)?

Probably not as there will be 2 different registries. 1 for each OS.

Depends on how crazy about number of activations you are. Second system will eat one activation per module, but that wouldn't be a problem for me If I was in the same situation, as I still have plenty to spare.

What if we decide to switch hard drives after 2.5? So install 2.5, keep 1.5 and 2.2 then uninstall them and 2.5 should be able to then be installed on the new hd?

It’s not about which hard drive it’s on, a duel boot system is essentially 2 different computers using the same hardware. If you currently boot via windows 7, windows 10 will require another activation even if you run it off the windows 7 hard drive

So, still a bit foggy... It sounds like I simply install 2.5 on my Win 10 boot and use up an activation with my Win 10 boot, but I can leave the Win 7 Boot alone if I want to try out 2.5 using Win 7.

How many activations do I get? It seems a bit odd to be using one up if I'm on the same PC and can't be using both dual boots at the same time. It would be great if the system were smart enough to allow me to uninstall on the Win 7 disk after confirming the Win 10 boot works ok - then crediting back my "activation" so I don't lose any.

How do I know how many activations I have left for a given module?
