Retexture Tornado Weapons file?

Good day to all.

 

I've finally located the Tornado GR4 weapons texture for the BOZ, Sky Shadow and fuel tanks, and would like to edit them so they look a lot better than the low quality current file.

 

My question is twofold, how do I make that entry into the description.lua, so that it shows up in the livery of choice?

 

EG, the desert pink Tonka's, I've created a desert pink weapons texture, but it still shows the default once in the cockpit/external views.

 

The description.lua is like this.

The blue is the added line, and the texture itself is in the same folder as all the rest of the textures.

 

I've tried with both the true and false statements, the default texture still shows..

 

I have a feeling that the "weapons" selection, needs to reflect what the ECM stuff is classed as, but cannot find how it's named.

 

The second part would then be, do I have to put the retextured file back into the original zip it was extracted from?

 

There's actually 6 different textures for the same part(s) within the zip.

 

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Oban, edit the zip is not a good idea, put the tornado-wpns.bmp in the TempTextures folder under Bazar.

BTW, the weapons models are very low poly, you can't improve this behaviour: time ago I've started doing new models for IDS Boz and Fuel tanks, still unfinished...

 

Something I'm working on in spare time: Fuel tank and Boz to replace the old (FC2?) low poly models loaded by Tornado IDS AI

Never thought about the temp folder in bazar thanks, will give that a go.

 

How do I link the texture to the livery??

Since DCS give priority to the files present in TempTextures folder, it will load the tex from there instead of the Tornado's zipped textures folder

I look forward to seeing how you get on. The low poly fuel tanks and pods let down what is quite a nice A.I Tornado model.

Yes, when they are completed, I will pass this work to ED.;)

However, I’m not a professional modeler, I’m slow and I’m working on other projects now, so don’t expect that work finished too soon.

How would I go about using 2-3 different variations of that "weapons" texture, rather than keep replacing the one in the temp folder, depending on the colour schemes I'm flying?

 

EG. If I added the pink textures and called them "tornado-wpns-1.bmp" and had this line in their description.luas, would they only use the one from the temp folder?

 

Same with the all grey version, but with a different number syntax?

 

I keep having to swap them out to take screenshots etc.

If you must edit a custom skin and not replace a generic texture, open the description.lua in the folder of your skin and put

In this case the texture must reside in the same folder of that custom skin

Thanks mate, will give it a bash, so far it's not doing what it should, the texture from the Temp Folder is overwriting it, might have a typo going on somewhere that's stopping this from working.

You can rename the texture to a new name (ie. tornado-wpns_grey.bmp, tornado-wpns_desert.bmp...), put the texture in TempTextures and declare them in the respective custom skin's description.lua with True flag.

 

So, for your desert storm skin

for grey

{"weapons", 0, "tornado-wpns_grey.bmp", true},

 

and so on.

I'm pulling my hair out here mate, tried the synatx you've written, and neither colours are showing, the default one is !! Arggghhhhhhh LOL.

 

If I delete the weapons line from the description, it selects the tornado-wpns.bmp from the temp folder

 

If I leave the line it, it selects the default tornado-wpns.bmp

 

I need to see the actual dcs description.lua for their Tornado GR4 to see if there's a typo in my lua.

The materials for the weapons texture are not inside the Tornado EDM file, but in each EDM of the weapons in use by Tornado.

So, analyzing the boz edm, the correct material is: "texture TORNADO-WPNS.bmp f2 g0"

In your description.lua add:

 

{"texture TORNADO-WPNS.bmp f2 g0", 0, "tornado-wpns.bmp", false};

and put your texture in the same folder of the skin you're editing.

 

I was assuming that "weapons" material in your 1st post was correct, but I haven't noticed that was incorrect since I'm using my weapons models with different materials name:doh:

So to correct this error, the "weapons" part needs to be shit canned, I'm heading back overseas tomorrow night, back to the grind, will try this out shortly, as packing my shit up, and thinking how to get my TM16000 into my cabin bag hahahaha

There has been a Mod around for this for years, I'm not sure who created it but it easy to use, simply add the three .edm's for the new model Tank, Sky Shadow and Boz, add the lines to your lua and insert the textures into the aircraft folder beside the lua.

 

You can then repaint the models as you wish, camo, grey, pink even ? Just change the texture to whatever you want and add it to the model you are changing, I keep all my textures in the model folder.

 

I will add in the replacement canopy texture as well, ED have been asked countless times to fix that but never did. I will also include an example lua, that might help as well.

by any chance does anyone know if there is a workaround for the missing canopy textures on the Tornado in DCS 2.5?
