Dream system

Recommended Posts

Hello all

If you could purchase you're DCS "dream" system what would you buy to maximize performance both now and in the near future? I'm computer illiterate and would not be building it myself but purchasing as a done deal. Is a VR headset the way to go ?

I'd be willing to spend in the $3000 to $5000 range.

Already own warthog stick/ throttle, rudder pedals, and track IR.

Any suggestions as to where to purchase very appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

OOOO!! a vicarious wish list:)

I just upgraded my GPU from a GTX 970 to an overclocked GTX 1080 and I am more than happy with it. However an even better card which comes at a price premium is the GTX 1080 Ti with 11Gb DDR5 ram. 1 less Gb than my current system.

Pair either of those cards on a Z270 Motherboard with an i7 7700K stick DCS on one of the new M2 drives and you will have probably the fastest rig you can buy as a consumer:)

Here is one but you can build your own for a fraction of the cost

If money is not the question, I would get something like this:

Intel i7.7700k :King of single thread for now

32GB RAM 3866MHz ( 4x8GB )

Asus Maximus Extreme IX Z270

Geforce GTX 1080 Ti watercooled ( Asus Poseidon for example )

Waterblock for CPU ( Watercool's HeatKiller-IV or Aquacomputer's Kyro Block )

Internal or external Radiator, a good Pump and Koolance-QuickConnectors ( those cost easily almost cost much as the rest of your cooling but make it very user friendly, 40€ per set ( male-female )

Samsung 960 Pro 1TB ( maybe 2 of them )

HDD for storage, 4-10TB, depending on your needs.

A Gsync Screen of your prefered size, 27-34", curved or flat, just look it got Gsync (!)

Thrustmaster Hotas Warthog ( maybe get a another grip too from VKB or Baur )

Baur Pedals

Track-IR5-pro

VR-maybe..depends...the Gsync is nice too and has a good resolution

add mouse keyboard, Win10, etc..

5000€ ... I stopped counting there for mine..maybe 6k total all-in-all from A-Z

*my tip, get 32GB right away...and get FAST RAM if you like TiR and VR, latency is a lot lower with faster RAM

Hello all

If you could purchase you're DCS "dream" system what would you buy to maximize performance both now and in the near future?... Is a VR headset the way to go ?

Yes, my dream system is one with an Oculus Rift VR :D

... I know that they are currently on the first generation and both the resolution and the VR controllers will most likely improve over time; but a second generation is still more than a year away and the immersion improvement is so radical, that one would be foolish not to get one if you have the proper budget.

I'd be willing to spend in the $3000 to $5000 range.

I'm computer illiterate and would not be building it myself but purchasing as a done deal.

Already own warthog stick/ throttle, rudder pedals, and track IR.

Current hardware is quite easy to assemble and very resistant to static so its a pity that you dont feel sure enough to build it yourself ... the biggest trouble is to get parts that are compatible with each other.

The advantages of building it yourself are two:

1) You save a bit of money

2) As you will better know the system, you will be able to repair and/or upgrade it yourself on the future.

Any suggestions as to where to purchase very appreciated.

I'd say that Amazon has good price and good support, something like this:

https://www.amazon.com/MSI-Aegis-VR7RE-012US-Desktop-i7-7700/dp/B01MS5LJ3Z/ref=sr_1_1?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1493294938&sr=1-1&refinements=p_n_feature_four_browse-bin%3A2289792011%2Cp_n_operating_system_browse-bin%3A12035945011%2Cp_n_graphics_type_browse-bin%3A14292273011%2Cp_n_feature_seven_browse-bin%3A3012497011%2Cp_n_condition-type%3A2224371011%2Cp_36%3A100000-200000

This leaves enough budget for the VR set and a Monitor (using VR you dont really need a fancy monitor).

:)

Origin PC guys are awesome at what they do!

I'm also looking to build myself a great gaming rig and room/nook setup, but holding back another few years for the next gen Intel CPU other than i7's something new and powerful for new game tech.

But if your searching for something great now check these guys out they are good at what they do..........

What is the ORIGIN Difference?

ORIGIN PC delivers the best gaming and professional PCs period, but what does that mean? It means the best parts and technology the computer gaming industry has to offer. It means world class support from day one and ORIGIN PC's support never ends. It means having a team of people who understand the art of elite system building and maintenance, standing by to assist you when you need it. It means never having to feel you made the wrong choice.

Any company can build a PC, but few can build a custom gaming PC worthy of playing the latest games. Many claim to offer gaming PCs, but they don't deliver a complete gaming experience. A real gaming PC must be focused on Customization, Service, Gaming, and Technology. This is ORIGIN PC's specialty.

They also deliver your system in a wooden case for protection..................

What I want is a sweet night look like this ..............

For me its not so much a room but a wall nook space for all my gaming stuff!

I want the Blue LED night light look stuff behind the desk and maybe put my system on the wall like you see here - "CLICK HERE"

But I'm going to wait longer like I said something new revolutionary for now current systems 2 x PC boxes play all my sims and other games sweet!

So I will be going for a sharp modern look no cables or wires very neat no mess and lots of hidden storage, a complete refit for sim'g and gaming.

So by the time I do this ED-DCS World should be at 3.0 with F-18C release, so why burn money now, best wait in my opinion when all is merged and DCS sim is optimized for new PC systems.

If someone has NO IDEA about computer's internal life ( I have dozens of such friends, relatives and customers ) it can be very hard to keep a really good system in shape.

In other words, owning a Ferrari, servicing one and driving one is a seldom to find attribute

if looked for in 1 person. Many freinds I have have top notch computers and every time I get there I can see in what bad shape they are, wasting performance just because those guys dont knopw better.

I have multiple friends with SLI, and giuess what, most are incapable of getting it to run after a driver update etc.. they often dont even recognize it runs on 1 card only.

Maintaining a top notch system demands a lot, more than most can do if they have no clue what it is about...we are just going thru this in another thread, sad but true.

What I wanna say in again other words:

Owning such a high end machine doesnt neccassarily mean it will ALWAYS perform like one.

It only takes 1 misclick with your mouse to ruin performance, one wrong unnoticed driver etc...those guys will face a degrading performance over time. I see that often enough.

OK, the more powerful it is, the more you can loose before it gets dramatic, yes, that is true too. But there are clicks and settings that ruin it all in seconds.

Sad but true.

It pays to dig into OS management, read forums, educate yourself and never think you know it all, there is more to it than 1 person can know, there always will be a gap, try to close it bit by bit.

Second, if you like gaming then you will be forced to get involved in your system to upgrade and tweak or send it back to home base for upgrade/maintenance/service.

Also you can find software and apps to modify systems and even hack into CPU code to modify strings in code all at risk of course but to build a system does not take a genius not anymore, with so much online support. Kids at the age of ten are well aware of how its all done I visit other games like FIFA, Battlefeild or COD etc and they are well educated on the matter.

Thirdly, I am a system builder since the 80's I have built many systems for family/friends/others.

At Tomshardware are a good bunch of professional and experienced people that will help you build or trouble shoot your system or network and I have been for years now posting there sourcing support for failures.

Plus you can buy some good books with step by step guides with pics on how to do it for approx $50 bucks LoL

Also if you by all the parts and read all the documentation provided you are safe to go ahead and work in an area with a rubber mat underneath to avoid static.

Again more online in how its all done.

As for my future project explained earlier for me I have no fears or doubts in building my new rig and gaming center to my liking as explained above.

Point of my post was to share possibilities i have no ego here just conversation and sharing what can be done nowadays for a great gaming room and system.

If you can not build it yourself, thats okay there are lots of PC builders locally in the area you live or online but you have to pay for the services.

Computers are just parts put to together even if you go water cooling just be sure to read all the documentation and visit manufacturer online resources for each part even for help and support.

Again just choices no need for fears or doubt just if you can be bothered in either direction you take build or buy and pay for services.

I procured mine with express shipping for just over 200 USD. It arrived in Virginia in about 5 days from Volgograd. It comes with all you need to get set up aside from a US wall plug adapter (if you live over here). The software is free, updated frequently, and easy to use. It's well under $200 without the expedited shipping. Worth every cent.

One thing about the one I referenced is the MOBO Tray...it comes out for assembly making everything just too easy. You dont assemble everything on MOBO in the case but outside on the counter.

Not to mention the upstairs/downstairs setup plus the cooling, Cable management and all the fan configurations one could ever want.

But if you like vertical towers...so be it. Enjoy your new rig !

Basically, same what I said.

Just owning it doesnt mean it will always perform like a champ per se.

There is a lot to it and one must be willing to take the time and read, educate yourself, ..or get on the phone and call Dell/Alienware.

It's just not like a console, that always performs like it should as it has no dials, no drivers, closed hardware etc.. PC's are a far more demanding to those who want to use them. :)

ALl I wanted is to remember that one has to bring his capabilty up to the level he asks for from the machine....or pay and pray

Agreed, on both counts.

However, my dream build would include two Samsung 960 Pro 1 TB instead of the 840 Demon listed.

ASUS ROG Maximus VIII Hero, i7-6700K, Noctua NH-D14 Cooler, Crucial 32GB DDR4 2133, Samsung 950 Pro NVMe 256GB, Samsung EVO 250GB & 500GB SSD, 2TB Caviar Black, Zotac GTX 1080 AMP! Extreme 8GB, Corsair HX1000i, Phillips BDM4065UC 40" 4k monitor, VX2258 TouchScreen, TIR 5 w/ProClip, TM Warthog, VKB Gladiator Pro, Saitek X56, et. al., MFG Crosswind Pedals #1199, VolairSim Pit, Rift CV1
