Can I change video cards? BitMaster

Recommended Posts

Currently in my new/old computer resides a 1070. I have a spare 1080. If I change these around will that trigger something and disable DCS? I am also adding a 500gb nvme drive.

I could also change the processor. Currently in that system lies a 4790K. I also have another

8700K. Should I change everything before I install DCS. I might forgo the CPU change as I

want to use that 8700K in something else.

What do you think? Thanks.

GPU should be okay I went from 980ti to 1080ti no problems but I think the CPU will cause a problem.

Might be best to go through the DRM process to eliminate any chance of problems and yes that process needs to be streamlined a lot. how

Absolutely, a cpu change will cost an activation if you do not deactivate.

LoL, was busy.

Anyway, you do know that a 8700k needs a new motherboard, despite the Socket itself is the same. Do NOT drop that 8700k into that 4th gen Chipset, NOT !

Deactivation...look at it this way:

It may not trigger a deactivation by changing a GPU alone, BUT..that change is noted and adds to your points. When you then change something else, also that will add up.

Some day, you feel like adding some RAM, also, that ALONE, wouldnt trigger anything.

Just, it did not forget about the prior changes and they all add up to the tipping point.

Deactivate DCS, play safe in the long run is my best advise ;)

Does it even matter if you use an activation? Doesn't it just go up by an activation a month once you get down to your last one?

Yes and No. They will not fill up again:

In other words, if you happen to run DCS on this "one per month" and have just installed it, like on the 1st of December....and your drive decides to die 15min after activation of DCS you will have to wait till January 1st to obtain a new "once per month". basically xmas w/o DCS :(

But if you have 5 left, its only bad luck that you lost one by hard drive failure but you can install and activate as soon as you have fixed/reinstalled your rig...and not wait a month to be granted 1 activation.

I am not sure how this now applies to the new activation method. I hope it is different but I am not certain. I do know that one of my modules is down to 1 and most between 2 and 5...LoL....hw-failures & overclocking take their toll.

Yeah I don't think its really a big concern to be honest. I just built a new system and I didn't bother to deactivate. With the new system being implemented I'm willing to bet its never an issue for 99% of DCS users.

Do we still have to deactivate? Everything has gone keyless and simply linked to an account now.

Play it safe, takes 2 minutes to do so, deactivate in DCS GUI, do your thing, activate again, that keeps your feet dry, 100%

Right around Harrier(?) release, ED went to online/keyless activation. So older modules all have keys for now.

Not true, lots of modules have been converted to keyless over the last few months as per the changelogs.

Checked my setup. All planes except the Hornet, Harrier, the two free planes are still using the DRM. I don't have any MIGs, but F15, A10C, Gazelle, Huey, Mi8, P51D etc are still using the keys. Two maps are keyless, the other two (older ones) are still using the DRM. At least on my system. I'm going by the fact that the above have the serial numbers still applied to them as well as the DRM button next to it.
