Virtual Reality Update

We see VR as an amazing tool to enjoy DCS World and the future of PC gaming for many. To make DCS World even better, we’ve been working on some great VR improvements that include:

Optimized VR performance.

Touch control that allows direct finger interaction with cockpit controls.

Touch control to allow the right and left Touch controllers to act as stick and throttle when positioned correctly in the virtual cockpit and holding down the middle-finger button.

These will provide a much more immersive VR experience, particularly for those flying warbirds and other aircraft that do not require HOTAS controls.

https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?p=3706594

Really hope to see better perfromance and direct finger interaction! Hope they post some video of this soon.

Sounds great!

I have a good HOTAS setup so I am most interested in VR performance improvements. That would be very welcome.

Whilst I think it'll be fun to try out the use of touch controllers, I think long term I'll still be using my TM Warthog.

I'm more interested in the 'Optimised VR performance'; I wonder if this means they'll be incorporating some sort of official shader mod or some other improvements/goodies. Also, there's no mention of a release date, unless these have gone out/going out with the next open beta?

Yep, sounds good, especially regarding the Performance improvements. Hopefully we will see some of the results soon, as there was talking about improvements for quite a while now.

"Optimized VR performance".

I'm starting to get excited. Let's have some more details please ED!

Thank you ED. Great to get some official good news on this, following the severe performance drops incurred, especially in VR, when the switch was made to deferred rendering.

The Touch stuff sounds intriguing, it'll be very interesting to see what sort of implementation can be achieved. Although personally, I'll be hanging on to my HOTAS, it's great to see this sort of VR innovation.

I think Oculus prefer to call it the "grip button". For some reason middle-finger button sounds slightly rude to me ;)

I'm going with incorporating the shader mod. That'd be my guess.

Is there a chance that leap motion will be supported by ED in VR at a certain point?

Anything is possible - but have never seen any official word on future support for LM.

I do want better VR performance. Other sims seem to have a better grasp of VR at present. I would like to see DCS catch up.

I really really hope that’s not what ED are referring to. That mod is not good IMO. Visually i find it poor. I occasionally install it, remember what I don’t like, and uninstall.

I’m sure ED have something better to offer us.

I would put my money on ED having something better.

I just hope it is sooner rather than later.

Optimized VR performance.....

Yeah, I will believe that when I see it! VR performance has been slowly degrading ever since it's introduction into DCS.

Agreed. I sure hope they do a good job with it. We need some vr improvements.

I don't me that mod exactly. I mean the concepts of that mod. Getting rid of things you can't see.

Not sure I have noticed any visual problems with that mod. I hope it will be something even better too, but I would still take the mod if not. The performance is vastly better and it would mean I wouldn't have to constantly load it all up again every time there is an update!

Well, just look at grass and the sun as 2 examples. Performance isn’t much better for me either. Sorry!
