Texture issue with P51 & TF51

Hello there,

 

I'm flying on DCS world since september 2019, with the P51 and TF51, everything worked fine since I noticed last week that some textures are not shown on the plane.

 

Note : I'm on STEAM.

 

I noticed that after having installed new liveries in the folder bazar/liveries/p51.

 

I've already tried to verify with steam, uninstalled the entire sim (even my "saved games" dcs folder), reinstalled it without any downloaded liveries, and texture still doesn't look normal, especially on the wings of every "metal" P51 like Moonbeam MC Swine, and the entire plane for Big Beautiful Doll...

 

I join some pictures to show it to you, and examples taken in yesterday dcs.log file, where we can see that there are a lot of errors ( it's after the clean 'vanilla' install)...

 

I have contacted the support, but I wanted to share it with you, does someone have an idea?

I have the latest Nvidia driver, for GTX 1080, windows 10 latest update, DCS latest update on steam (not beta).

 

I've tried the spitfire, FW190 A8, Me109 during the free weekend and everything worked fine with those planes. I don't know what to do now...

May be it does not come from my computer, someone on a French DCS Forum just told me that he was experiencing the same texture issues on his DCS (on the Checksix forums, I firstly posted there as I'm french too).

He says that he sees also errors in the log files.

 

Does someone see the same problems here?

It's "normal" (well, kind of).

 

When the game gfx engine switched to deferred rendering and the skins switched from using spec maps to roughmet maps, not all default planes liveries were converted, or they were converted rather poorly. That applies to Mustang as well.

 

The skins with flat wings are supposed to represent wartime production standard of leaving the fuselage in natural metal finish, while the wings were filled, sanded and painted silver. Thus, the difference in reflection level. The problem is, wing textures are way too flat it seems. The problem was discussed here:

The skins like Big Beautiful Doll were never converted to new standard at all, while some skins got their bort numbers bugged many months ago and were never fixed.

 

I suggest relying on custom aluminium skins made by community. They're much better than default ones anyway (especially the ones by Reflected). Check the user files section of the ED website to get them, or skins section of the forum.

Thank you for your explanation, I'm a bit sorry and confuse so to see that my memory failed me :wassat:, as I was convinced that I've seen better textures...

But it seems like I was totally wrong ! It's better this way, with nothing more to do.

And yes I discovered Reflected liveries last week, that's what decided me to install new liveries, and then when I looked back at 'original' ones, I thought there was an error somewhere leading to this flat wings effect, but thank you again, even if you point out that I was wrong, I was eager to know what was happening !!!

Well that explains it. I've used the Israeli P-51 skin a lot lately and wondered why they're so matte...

I just tried "Rejected" liveries for my P-51, using Crousti's idea to create a folder as "liveries" & subfolder "P-51D" in my saved game folder, and it's really cool, these liveries are so great compared to the original ones, even if some were cool too, the fact that there are custom pilots and patches, etc.

And it's easier to keep a clean DCS Bazar folder with users liveries in an external folder like this. Thanks !!! I can love my Mustang again without worrying about "breaking" DCS :thumbup:.
