Autopilot altitude control behaviour

There's a lever for the AP altitude channel - Up & Down. If you hold it the helicopter rises or descends as commanded but then returns to the original height as when the altitude channel was first engaged.

 

Is this correct behaviour? Is the UP/DOWN lever just for momentarily 'hopping' over trees or other obstacles?

 

Also, the altitude AP seems to be using baro altitude - is there a way to make it use radar altitude?

Yes.

No. It's for testing the system. It's not meant to be used in flight.

No.

that mode is only good 7m ASL on PG :) ...........and below ca. 200km/h, any faster and that channel of your AP goes wildly pitching, usually DOWn.
