DLC Maps and servers

Hello!

I have a question regarding all these coming maps.

We're running a server for our team and we're worrying about having to buy all the maps for our server as there is no real dedicated server available.

Will there be a solution for that? Or will it be mandatory to buy the maps for the server too?

Thank you very much!

That would be great, as a second map on our server will already DOUBLE our annual expenses because of room on hard drives of our server, if we also have to buy the maps for the server side, that seems a damn lot of expenses to run new maps online...

I don't know how it's gonna be on servers side with two/three differents maps regarding hard drive space though... It's probably going to be a little mess.

If you look at the numbers now, you can see how much of a failure DLC maps are in MP

total 148

Caucasus 128 - 86.48%

Neveda 15 - 10.13%

Normandy 5 - 3.79%

These poor numbers are due to server hosts having to pay for a map just to host for others to connect to

I have a feeling that when the gulf comes out it will be similarly bad

We need a dedicated server, but are unlikely to get one anytime soon from ED, so the future of DCS MP does not look bright at all

I don't really think that says the whole story. I bought Nevada and Normandy when they both came out. When 2.0 was still separate from 1.5, there was a lot of servers just hosting the Nevada and Normandy maps.

It's only been since 2.5 and the new Caucasus map release that there are barely any servers hosting Nevada or Normandy.

There is a lot more server owners that own Nevada and Normandy than what a casual scroll through the multiplayer list in 2.5 would probably suggest. Why their not hosting those maps at all anymore, aside from the fact that the Caucasus map is new, is a good question though.

Were they dedicated servers? (that can handle a lot of players) or were they people just hosting and playing DCS in multiplayer ?

I think it's mainly because Caucasus is new and was waited for years, the other reason can be that you can't have many maps on your server at the same time because they are heavy and to install them all at the same time will require a server that costs 2 to 3 times the cost of a classic one. So people who has server probably did remove Normandy & Nevada to free the space to install Caucasus, no?

With the new licence system, can we install/uninstall a map without consuming an activation? An idea to reduce the server cost could be to have installed only the map you need... It is annoying if you want to change often but could work and that can make my team save up to 400€ per year. It's the extra-cost we will have to pay if we want Caucasus AND Persian Gulf installed at the same time on our server... Regardless of the cost of the map itself.

I would say no, a decent spec server storage space will not be an issue

From helping out with running a server it is the cost of the map that is the issue
