DCS World 2.5 Update
Today we released an update 1 for Open Beta DCS World 2.5.
There are integration of new L-39 Kursant campaign and lot of bugfixes and improvements for many projects.

You can see the full changelog in our forums.

L-39 Kursant Campaign is available

The L-39 Kursant Campaign is a single-player campaign for the L-39C/ZA aircraft. You will receive both basic and advanced instruction on:
  • Low altitude navigation.
  • Aerial reconnaissance using real-life tactics.
  • Detailed instruction for bomb, rocket, and gun weapon delivery against ground targets, preceded by realistic ingress maneuvers.
  • Interception of aerial targets with R-60 air-to-air missiles.
All flights are performed under the supervision of a virtual-instructor. After each flight, he will decide whether or not you progress to the next mission based on your performance. At the conclusion of the training course, an evaluation flight will be performed to determine how well you have learned the skills of L-39 navigation and combat employment.

Main features of this campaign:
  • 11 highly-detailed and realistic missions that are based on actual L-39 training requirements.
  • Missions start and end on the parking ramp, which creates an immersive atmosphere of being a “kursant” (cadet) at a training squadron.
  • Detailed briefings, flight plans, and virtual instructor pilot help you successfully complete this training course.

Persian Gulf Map for DCS World Update

In addition to fixing a few remaining bugs and further tuning the map, our map team is already at work expanding the low-detail around the map and adding two new Iranian airfields. These two airfields, Kerman and Shiraz, or inland from the Persian Gulf and will add some great gameplay options for both new campaigns and online play. These will significantly expand the range between bases in the UAE/Oman and Iran.

Both of these additions will come after the release of the Early Access version. Purchase now though at the discount price before the early access period ends at the end of this month.

DCS: F/A-18C Hornet Video Update

Both the DCS: F/A-18C Hornet and Persian Gulf Map for DCS World are coming this month! Please see our Hornet video update.

Persian Gulf Map for DCS World, Now Available!

We are excited to announce that the Persian Gulf Map for DCS World is now available for download. This is our first modern-day combat theater outside of the Caucasus map, and it will provide many interesting and engaging historical and hypothetic scenarios. To purchase this new map for DCS World, please visit DCS e-shop

Please note that the Persian Gulf Map early access release is only for DCS World 2.5 Open Beta. Once the map becomes final, it will be available in the DCS World 2.5 Release version.

The Persian Gulf Map for DCS World focuses on the Strait of Hormuz, which is the strategic choke point between the oil-rich Persian Gulf and the rest of the world. Flanked by Iran to the North and western-supported UAE and Oman to the south, this has been one of the world’s most dangerous flash points for decades. It was the location of Operation Praying Mantis in 1988 in which the US Navy sank several Iranian naval vessels.

The region also includes the vast Arabian Sea that is well-suited for combat aircraft carrier operations, and it will be an amazing area of operations for the upcoming Hornet and Tomcat. Be it from land bases in Iran, UAE and Oman, or from the deck of an aircraft carrier, the Persian Gulf Map offers a wide array of combat mission scenarios to prove your mettle.

Key Features:
  • 201,000 sq km highly detailed map area that centers on the Strait of Hormuz.
  • As part of DCS World 2.5, this map include highly detailed terrain, textures, seas, and buildings.
  • 17 accurately created airbases in Iran, the UAE and Oman. Airbases include a variety of landing aids that can include TACAN, VASI lights, realistic approach lights, and VOR.
  • Detailed cities such as Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Bandar Abbas with unique buildings.
  • “Strong Hold” islands such as Abu Musa, Siri, and the Tunb islands.
  • Iran, the UAE and Oman will be added to the list of DCS World nations.
  • Unique trees, bushes, grass and other vegetation using speedtree technology.
  • Varied terrain from towering mountains and valleys to desert plains.
  • New map objects like super tankers, cargo ships, pleasure craft, and dhows.
  • New Iranian liveries for ground and air units.
  • Map expansion coming soon with Kerman and Shiraz airbases in Iran.

Fly DCS: F/A-18C Hornet Now!
It’s here at last! We are thrilled to announce the availability of DCS: F/A-18C Hornet from our e-Shop

Our Hornet is the culmination of more than 40 man years of intense research, technology development, art creation, and ground-breaking coding. The Hornet brings the first, true, multi-role fighter to the skies of DCS World with equally impressive air-to-surface and air-to-air capabilities.

DCS: F/A-18C Hornet is initially being released as Early Access, with several features to be added during the Early Access period. This includes several sensors, weapons, and sub-systems.

About the DCS: F/A-18C Hornet
The F/A-18C Hornet is a single seat, twin engine, supersonic multi-role air superiority fighter. It combines extreme maneuverability, a deadly arsenal of weapons, and the ability to operate from an aircraft carrier. Operated by several nations, this multi-role fighter has been instrumental in many theatres from 1986 onwards.

The Hornet is equipped with a large suite of sensors that includes a multi-mode radar, targeting pod and helmet mounted sight. In addition to its internal 20mm cannon, the Hornet is armed with a large assortment of unguided bombs and rockets, laser and GPS-guided bombs, air-to-surface missiles of all sorts, and both radar and infrared-guided air-to-air missiles. This results in amazing gameplay potential.

The Hornet is also known for its extreme, slow-speed maneuverability in a dogfight. We have gone to great lengths to model the flight aerodynamics and fly-by-wire flight control system of the Hornet to allow you to experience the real feeling of power and extreme capabilities this aircraft has to offer. Although incredibly deadly, the Hornet is also a very easy aircraft to fly.

Being a carrier aircraft, the Hornet also comes with the most detailed aircraft carrier ever created for a PC game. Catapult from the “boat”, strike a large assortment of targets that only DCS World can offer, then “call the ball” and land back on the carrier. DCS: F/A-18C Hornet in DCS World provides the most rich and authentic digital combat aviation you will ever experience!

Key Features of DCS: F/A-18C Hornet:
  • Professional Flight Model (PFM) and authentic Flight Control System (FCS). Experience the thrill of flying this supersonic warbird.
  • Includes a new, highly-detailed USS John C. Stennis aircraft carrier with fully operational steam catapults, arrestor wires, “meat ball” landing system, tacan navigation, jet blast deflectors, radar antennas, defense systems, and lights.
  • The most realistic model of the F/A-18C imaginable, down to each bolt and flake of paint, animated controls surfaces, lights, damage model, and landing gear.
  • Detailed simulation of the Hornet’s many sub-systems like engines, fuel, electrical, hydraulic, radios, lighting, emergency, and many, many more. Although features like “auto start” are available, the sense of accomplishment cannot be overstated after learning to operate this state-of-the-art machine.
  • Inertia and GPS navigation systems with moving map display allow you multiple ways to find your target and get you back to “mother”.
  • Dozens of air-to-air and air-to-ground weapons and sensors. From simple rockets to high-tech GPS and laser-guided bombs, experience what only Hornet pilots have experienced ‘til now.
  • A highly realistic and exhaustively researched cockpit that is mouse interactive with 6 degrees of freedom. Interact with the cockpit by pressing buttons and moving switches. You will feel like part of the aircraft with our Advanced Systems Modeling (ASM) .
  • Authentic Hornet sounds provided with the assistance of Boeing, the Hornet’s manufacturer.
  • New effects have been developed for our Hornet like leading edge extension vapor, over-wing vapor, rain on canopy, and new explosions.
  • Virtual Reality support. Take advantage of the latest VR technologies to immerse yourself in the simulation. Other than the G’s, you will feel like you are there!
  • Multiple liveries for the US Navy, US Marine Corps, Canada, Australia, Spain, Switzerland, Finland, and many more.

DCS World War II News
In commemoration of the June 1944 D-Day landings, we have several DCS World War II updates we’d like to bring you. We see DCS World War II as a very important component of DCS World and it will continue to grow with new features, content, and numerous improvements. We are just getting started.

Normandy 1944 Map for DCS World Update
Working with the Ugra Media, the developer or the Normandy map, we will be releasing a free update to this map in June. This map is the ideal battleground for our warbirds that focuses on northern France in the summer on 1944.

More screenshots

Coming improvements include:
  • More detailed objects and realistic airfield textures. The textures now reflect the more dusty, lighter, sandy surfaces
  • Removal of permanent structures from ALG airfields
  • Concrete surfaces for the airfields of Evreux, Carpiquet, and Tangmere
  • Shallow water zones along the coastal areas
  • New stone bridges
  • More structures like farm houses outside the detailed areas of the map
  • Added more objects like windmills
  • Improved performance

Free DCS: World War II Assets Pack Update
To provide a more realistic and populated World War II environment, new assets are being added to the World War II assets pack this month.

More screenshots

Some of these new units include:
  • M12 gun motor carriage
  • M30 cargo carrier
  • M2A1/M3 halftrack
  • StuG IV
  • Sd.Kfz. 234/2 “Puma”
  • Sd.Kfz. 7 artillery tractor
  • Sd.Kfz. 251
  • Sd.Kfz. 2 Kettenkrad
  • Horch staff car
  • Barrage balloons
  • LCVP Higgins boats
  • UK soldier

There is no additional charge for all of these new units.
Many new air, ground and sea units will be coming in later updates.

Spitfire LF Mk.IX Update
Also this month will see the completion of the Spitfire with a clipped wing version, the ability to carry bombs, and the ability to mount both a slipper tank or external fuel tank. This will give our Spitfire far more mission capability like cross-channel patrols and ground attacks.

More screenshots

This will make the DCS Spitfire an incredibly accurate simulation of the Spitfire LF Mk.IX, with a fully interactive cockpit, detailed sub-systems, and a professional flight model. Based on hands-on feedback from pilots that have hundreds of hours in the Spitfire LF Mk.IX, we are very proud of this showcase title.

In cooperation with talented 3rd parties, we also have some amazing, new Spitfire campaigns coming to DCS World that take advantage of these new features.

Static Templates Coming to DCS World
Static Templates are sets of objects that can be placed on the map and saved as a single entity. After a template is created, it can be saved and shared with others. Multiple instances of a Static Template can then be placed to create more interesting and populated missions. In addition to statics, AI units can also be placed in the template.

Examples of potential Static Templates include:
  • Atlantic Wall fortifications
  • Harbor traffic at Le Havre and Cherbourg
  • Battlefield front lines
  • Munition and fuel depots
  • Headquarters units
  • Airfield support units
Static templates allow better performance and faster construction of missions and campaigns. This will be valuable tool to offer even better gameplay content.

DCS: F/A-18C Hornet Update
Our Hornet is now available from both our e-Shop and Steam. We are ecstatic about its reception and all the kind words. It makes us happy to see you so pleased with the results of our work, thank you!

Our immediate focus is on addressing the most pressing errors and creating a solid foundation from which to start adding the new functions and systems. Additionally, we are working on content like new interactive training missions, single missions, and a campaign!
We also have several new Hornet academic videos to help you learn this aircraft more quickly. More such videos will come as new functions and systems are added:

DCS: F/A-18C Hornet - Episode 10: Air-to-Air Gun

DCS: F/A-18C Hornet - Episode 11: AIM-9 "Sidewinder" Air-to-Air Missile

DCS: F/A-18C Hornet - Episode 12: Unguided Bombs

DCS: F/A-18C Hornet - Episode 13: AIM-7 Sparrow Air-to-Air Missile

DCS: F/A-18C Hornet - Episode 14: AUTO to CCIP Bombing

DCS World Open Beta to Release
This week we made the big step of updating the release, “stable” version of DCS World from our current DCS World Open Beta version. Not only does this bring all modules to the release version of DCS World (like the Hornet and Persian Gulf Map), but it also integrates many fixes and updates that have been addressed in the Open Beta over the past several weeks. Some highlights include:
  • Support for new campaigns
  • Added new USS John C. Stennis aircraft carrier
  • Implemented initial version of video memory manager
  • Added new OFFLINE mode
  • Added China Pack
  • Added moon light effects
  • Added Static Object templates
  • A-10C flood lights corrected
  • Updates to the Normandy 1944 Map
  • Added the new World War II Asset Pack units
  • Corrected tail wheel behavior for the Spitfire
  • Many improvements and fixes to the AV-8B Harrier N/A, M-2000C, MiG-21bis, C-101, SA342 Gazelle, Hawk T1, and Flaming Cliffs 3 aircraft.
You can read the complete, lengthy change log in the dedicated thread
Next week will bring an update that includes many additions and improvements to our Hornet.

DCS: Black Shark 2 – 2018 Trailer
In 2011 we released DCS: Black Shark 2, which is still the most authentic simulation of the Russian Ka-50 attack helicopter. Seven years later, the Ka-50 is still one of the most fun and exciting aircraft to fly in DCS World. With the graphical and updated world (like the new tree system and grass) that DCS World 2.5 brings, the Ka-50 is better than ever.

To highlight just how great the Ka-50 is to fly in DCS World 2.5, we’ve created an updated trailer video. Later this year, we’ll also be updating the Ka-50 cockpit (and A-10C!) to use our very latest graphic technologies.

Purchase the Ka-50 now at 50% off

DCS: Spitfire LF Mk.IX and DCS: Normandy 1944 Map Updates
DCS World War II has two great updates this week! The first is the addition of several new features to the Spitfire. These include a new clipped wing version, slipper and torpedo fuel tanks, the ability to carry bombs, and continued to refinements to the flight dynamics. Together, these new features give the Spitfire longer legs and a more diverse mission capability. With these additions, we are pleased to announce that the Spitfire is now feature complete and out of early access.

The second big DCS World War II element is a substantial update to the Normandy 1944 map. The biggest improvements being updated and more accurate airfields, new concrete runways for appropriate airfields, shallow water effects, new objects like windmills and scattered farm houses, smoother beach transitions, regional specific bridges, and improved performance.

Another three elements currently in development, that will also improve the DCS World II experience is the new damage model, an improved sighting system, and improved dogfight AI!

DCS World 2.5 Update
This week we released many new features and fixes for DCS World and several modules. You can read the complete change log in the dedicated thread on the forum.

Some of the highlights of this week’s update include:

DCS World
  • Unique radio frequencies and TACAN channels that can be assigned to each ship in a group now.
  • Units now appear as 2D objects in the Mission Editor, rather than an icon. This allows much more precise unit and object placement.
  • AI taxi logic around the carrier has been improved to avoid collisions.
DCS: F/A-18C Hornet
  • Added carrier cold start instant action missions.
  • Corrected launch bar to shuttle shenanigans.
  • Canister munitions now have variable timed fuzes with height function for much greater accuracy.
  • Option for single and ripple rocket launches.
  • Waypoints numbers can now be edited in the Waypoint / DATA page.
  • DDIs can now be exported. Rejoice home cockpit builders!
  • Corrected selection of AG munitions after launching an AIM-7.
  • Corrected carrier TCN time to go indicator and added back TCN callsigns.
  • Abeam distance to course line added to HSI. Very handy for getting that 1.1 to 1.3 abeam pattern distance!
  • Radar no longer easily loses lock.
  • Corrected jettison issues.
  • New VFA-122 skin.
DCS: AV-8B Night Attack
  • Fixed strobe light
  • Waypoint edited add for UFC
  • Updated Tarawa model
  • Training missions for the Caucasus map added
DCS: A-10C Warthog and DCS Black Shark
  • Datalink restored

Modern Air Combat by Eagle Dynamics Coming this Autumn!

Developed by the same studio that brought you the wildly successful Lock On, Modern Air Combat (MAC) brings you one game with 14 unique combat aircraft to own the sky! MAC aircraft include:

F-15C Eagle. US air superiority fighter with 104 kills to 0 losses record.
Su-27 Flanker B. Russia’s dominate air superiority fighter.
Su-33 Flanker D. The Russian navy’s carrier capable version of the Flanker B.
J-11A Flanker B+. The Chinese version of the Flanker B, with R77 active homing missiles.
MiG-29 Fulcrum A. Russia’s widely exported light-weight air superiority fighter.
MiG-29S Fulcrum C. The modernised version of the Fulcrum with latest weapons and defences.
A-10A Warthog. The USAF’s massively successful ‘flying tank’, designed to kill ground targets.
Su-25A Frogfoot. Russia’s primary ground attack and close air support jet.
Su-25T Frogfoot. A modernised version of the Frogfoot with enhanced sensors and weapons.
F-86F Sabre. America’s iconic top fighter during the Korean War.
MiG-15bis Fagot. Russia’s 1st generation jet fighter that opposed the Sabre over Korea.
F-5E Tiger II. The US light-weight fighter that has been operational since the Vietnam War and operated by over 30 countries.
MiG-21bis Fishbed. Russia’s most successful fighter of the Vietnam war. A supersonic fighter that closely matches the Tiger II.
L-39ZA. A Czech designed, two seat trainer that was then adapted to a light attack aircraft.

Announcement Trailer

Each aircraft’s flight model, sounds, external model and cockpit is recreated to an exceptional level of detail and accuracy. Great care has been given to offer scalable gameplay that suits your personal levels and wishes. This includes intuitive and consistent keyboard controls between aircraft, selectable difficulty settings, option for more forgiving flight dynamics, and even the ability to fly these aircraft with just your keyboard.

As with Lock On and the Flaming Cliffs series, MAC is focused on east and west counterpart aircraft, and this includes such legendary match-ups such as the Eagle and Flanker, Warthog and Frogfoot, Sabre and MiG-15bis, and the F-5E and MiG-21bis. MAC is a blend of both east and west, and this allows you to re-fight historical conflicts from the Korean War to today, and to create your own ‘what-if’ missions.

You can generate an unlimited number of missions using the Fast Mission Creator and Mission Editor. MAC also includes numerous instant action and single missions, as well as campaigns for most of the aircraft and is fully compatible with DCS World online! There are no limits to content.

In addition to the full Caucasus map, MAC also includes a limited part of our Nevada and Persian Gulf maps.

Key Features of MAC:
  • 14 exceptional combat aircraft from the United States, Russia, China and Czech Republic.
  • Shallow learning curve with consistent key controls between aircraft, and easy to fly with just a keyboard.
  • Professional level flight models, but with option for forgiving flight dynamics.
  • Play instant action, single missions and campaigns for most aircraft in single player or fly online.
  • Supports Virtual Reality like Oculus Rift, HTC Vive and Windows Mixed Reality.
  • Includes the Caucasus map and portions of Nevada and the Persian Gulf.
  • Purchase MAC aircraft individually or as a pack at a reduced price.
  • Flaming Cliffs 3 owners can purchase the MAC pack at a great discount.

DCS World 2.5 Update
This week we merged the current DCS World 2.5 Open Beta to the DCS World 2.5 Release version.

Next week, 18 July, we plan the next DCS World update to include many fixes and improvements to the Hornet, DCS World 2.5, the Persian Gulf Map, and other modules.

DCS World Dedicated Server Update
With the launch of 2.5 earlier this year, we have been working diligently on an item we’ve been wanting to bring to DCS World for quite a long time: a dedicated server. It however was not until the launch of DCS World 2.5 was this possible, and hence the length of time this has taken.

As a dedicated server, the software will not require any graphics rendering, so no dedicated graphics card will be required and there is no audio requirement. This all greatly reduced server load overhead.

There will be a new web GUI to control the server. Operation of the dedicated server through the web GUI will operate much as the existing online server does now, but allow you to make changes remotely.

We plan to release the dedicated server in Autumn 2018. Afterward, we will investigate adding additional features to expand its capability.

Sincerely,
The Eagle Dynamics Team
