I on the other hand am a little disappointed. We're having a mid Pacific Theater plane pitted against late European Theater aircraft. This plane will struggle. It's better than nothing, but an F4U-4 would have been a better choice imo

That won't be nearly as effective, and is also besides the point.

They have to start somewhere with pacific theatre birds, I don't think they could sustain a business by holding a whole set of aircraft back just to release them all at once. Yes it will be out of place at first, but hopefully in a few years the pacific will have busy skies.

I personally think the P-38 would have been a better crossover aircraft, but being a huge Corsair fan ever since I was a little kid (my Dad flew -4's in Korea) I am very excited to have her in DCS, All bent winged, hog nosed, Ensign eliminating variants are more than welcome on this end!!!!

That's not exactly true Zach, F4U-1d was a late war fighter as much as Focke-Wulf 190 D-9. While wikipedia claims it started rolling out of factories in April 1944, for practical matters it was still rare even at the time of Leyte invasion and Philippine campaign. For instance, VMF-115 when arrived in December 1944 on Tacloban airfield as a part of Marine Aircraft Group 12, it had a mix of F4U-1's, F4U-1d's and FG-1a's. Older aircraft could also be found in VMF-218.

But the point is that F4U-1d is no mid Pacific Theater machine but late war high performance aircraft with possibly greater versatility than warbirds you compare it to. Plus, take into account that FAA had a decent number of FG-1d's in operation as well.

If it ever actually comes to DCS I’ll buy it for sure, such a classic bird.

Wow, that's a narrow recovery from the drink: less then a few inches, I think.
