VC
My understanding is that Soviet CAS doctrine was pretty much as rigid as their GCI, with strict ground control of the aircraft involved. But I know very little about this subject and I'm curious to know more, especially once more sophisticated/dedicated aircraft turn up like the MiG-27 but also Su-17/22. These aircraft look very specialised, designed to come in low and fast, not loiter, and have forward looking optical sensors, but how does all this capability integrate with ground-directed strikes? Can their sensors do a laser-spot-search to find something a ground controller is lasing for them? What would a typical attack profile and workflow look like? VC =X51= Squadron is recruiting! VC
Very interesting, thank you! Even if the tactics are for helicopters, it gives a very good idea of the co-ordination and attack styles required. VC =X51= Squadron is recruiting! Harlikwin
The 27 and the 17 would have been used more like tornado for penetration strikes for the most part early on. Thats what the limited pgm capability was for. They could do CAS, but that was more of a su25 job. New hotness: I7 9700k 4.8ghz, 32gb ddr4, 2080ti, :joystick: TM Warthog. TrackIR, HP Reverb (formermly CV1) Old-N-busted: i7 4720HQ ~3.5GHZ, +32GB DDR3 + Nvidia GTX980m (4GB VRAM) :joystick: TM Warthog. TrackIR, Rift CV1 (yes really).
