ED Team Yo-Yo Posted October 10, 2013 ED Team Share Posted October 10, 2013 You think that Mk IX will make you an absolute winner? I have bad news for those who consider P-51 too stick sensitive and thus prone to stall... :) As Spitfire has neutral stability there is only 3/4" of stick travel to stall as it was reported by NACA. Really silk hands or full scale joystick required... :) It will be no mercy, hardcore only - all will be as Mitchell designed. 1 Ніщо так сильно не ранить мозок, як уламки скла від розбитих рожевих окулярів There is nothing so hurtful for the brain as splinters of broken rose-coloured spectacles. Go for it Yo-Yo... make it as hardcore you can, this is the DCS way. No, it is intended telative airframe and CG position. Neutral stability was quite popular in 30'. Polikarpov's I-16 has the same neutral or almost neutral stability but Spit was easier to handle because it was better dampened due to longer fuselage and tail arm. bongodriver
3/4" is about the slack in my joystick before the FF motors bite, should be ok, just don't forget to model the superb turning performance.

I am sure it will be modelled, but you will probably have to bring your A game in order to get the most out of her... wont be easy to be the best :) Forum Rules • My YouTube • My Discord - NineLine#0440• **How to Report a Bug**
9.JG27 DavidRed
nice thread yo-yo... this just made me really eager to fly the spit as well... i hope such pieces of information about the fw190, and the 109k4 will arise soon as well. cheers
bongodriver
it doesn't sound like the Spitfire that totally green rookies found 'easy to fly', this is another one of those debates that rages on like the 109 bar, but in this case I have faith in Yo-yo and his access to experienced Spitfire pilots for feedback. Endy
Thankfully anyone can manipulate the joystick curves in DCS in any plane to suit their preference so there shouldn't be any problems. Just a matter of adjusting a bit.
SlipBall
I can't remember the airshow or the pilot's name speaking. But he was asked to compare the spit and 109 on turning. He without any hesitation, said the 109 was hands down superior...sorry, can't remember the model spit or the 109's that he has flown. AndyJWest
Regarding the 'elliptical wing effect', it is worth remembering that the Spitfire has noticeable washout too - something like 3 degrees, from memory. Consequently, the wing root should generally stall before the tips.
bongodriver
Which it did, hence why the Spit was regarded well for giving good warning of imminent stall from buffet.

bongodriver
I was told by Sammy Sampson of the BBMF that the MkV Spitfire was the only Mark ever fitted with the 'bob weight' to counter the neutral stability.
