Red Sands reverted 2.5.5

We don't openly advertise Red Sands persistent campaign, but many folks have come across http://www.red-sims.eu/ and may wonder where the server went.

 

After a tough choice this afternoon, we reverted to 2.5.5 because the changes are throwing too many errors and the memory accumulation eventually collapses the application. We didnt feel it was right to leave it as an open testing server to thoroughly look at the issues and develop on live, as it would be unfair.

 

Largely there wasn't too much else obviously impacting apart from some of the actual game issues like some cockpit lighting on some modules (A-10C landing gear, F-14 "Amsterdam issue" etc). Our MOOSE version is also throwing errors because of the event changes and I'm busy with that too.

 

 

Our next steps are to

 

 

  • Seek a Moose update that silences the Event error to logs caused by new Events to the SSE.
  • Await an ED change on the 'proto sound' log spam
  • Review the memory accumulation
  • Do point tests on the individual features to see if anything else doesnt work (Airbase changes, impacts on Dispatchers and CAP's)
  • Re-assess an update.

It's disappointing to users who have all those lovely visual updates and can't experience the live map conquest action we have had running for the last year or so, but this is the nature of running OB as a server and changes are for the better in the long run.

 

 

The postings in Discord will be more timely on how we are progressing, but we expect this to be the status into next week at minimum.
