If they keep charging this much for assets, this will remain a niche game. Not everyone who plays this game is middle aged or retired man with a lot of money lying around. This is why other games that have insane amount of coding and everything when compared with DCS single module cost a fraction, because they want the masses to access it.
It is a niche market. There simply aren't the number of enthusiasts prepared to put the time or inclination into a complex flight combat simulation like DCS to be compared with mainstream computer games at mainstream computer game prices.

In my view it is the market that determines the pricing rather than the pricing restricting the market.

Expecting people to buy different modules and then on top pay so much for assets, it all adds up eventually. They can charge however much they want but for a lot of people this hobby is getting too expensive.

I suppose you can argue that then they should not buy it, this will in return just reduce the playerbase and alienate future customers when they see that owning a few modules will add up to quite a bit of money.

This is just my opinion, this hobby is already starting to become too expensive for the amount of time I get to spend on it now. It is next to impossible for me to even convince my friends to play this because they just look at the prices and then say no in an instant.

I am just now hoping that this carrier is acually worth the 50 dollars asking price and more complete at launch before I even consider purchasing it. Too many early access for me now.

Yeah, trying to operate and develop a game to facilitate customers with little to no money/spending power sounds like a genius business plan. You should give it a try yourself and let us know how it feels to survive on fresh air.

Hold back the cavalry buddy. I was simply providing an opinion. You guys are also sharing your opinion but no need for the cliche “you try to do it better” remarks. Catering for the small “wealthy” crowd is the reason why they feel the need to sell assets like this carrier to keep up sales and focus on games like MAC. At least that is generally how people explain to me on other social media discussion platforms when I bring up the reasoning for these modules and version.

Again, I welcome a good discussion but keep your sassy responses to the minimum please.

There is another detailed flight sim out there, that the last time I checked was almost $200 just to get started, then forces you to re-buy every module whenever there is a major update. I'll stick with DCS thanks.

Yeah ED drives me nuts sometimes with fixes that break something else, etc., and I've done my share of complaining at times, but for what it is, and the hours I spent over the years flying it, I most certainly got my money's worth. Very few sims/games have this kind of life span, and in things like RPG's most ongoing development is tied to a monthly fee as well as expensive yearly expansions that are required to keep playing, often costing more than the game did.

ED never requires you to buy anything really, there are several free planes to go along with the free download, at least one of which is fully combat capable. You don't have to buy a single module if you don't want to, and just the ones you really want if money is an issue.

BTW I am one of those old retired guys, and I don't have any money lying around. I'd like to get the carrier while I can get it cheap, but even that small amount of money just isn't in the budget right now. I'm not living on dog food, but there are still bills to pay and a fixed income only goes so far. I can always catch one of the numerous sales later on, so can anyone else. When the FA-18 went into early access, I happened to have the money on hand so took advantage of the discount. I haven't flown it at all until lately, as I wanted to have more features, etc. But it was my choice. I did not have to buy it to be able to keep flying my beloved A10C. Even A10C 2 won't be required to keep flying the A10C (though I am going to start putting a little back when I can to pick it up when it releases). For that matter, the carrier module isn't required to fly the FA-18. This is aimed more at dedicated realists, and squadrons who want a higher level of detail for their ops. The existing carrier in the game is perfectly fine for the casual flyer, and isn't going anywhere that I know of.

Early access isn't for everyone, it's basically pay to beta. In a way, they are paying you to beta by giving you a discount on it. It also gives us a little insight into their build process, as well as a chance for us to give some feedback into what we are seeing on our end. No developer could hope to have the wide variety of rigs and setups that the community has, so it is a valuable resource for them, too. I was once a beta tester for a number of RPG's a while back, and ED listens to us far more than those companies did.

So all in all, if you don't think it's worth picking up at this time, don't. No one is forcing anyone to buy it at all, really.

Fair point. I am almost at the edge of getting it myself since I have piles of miles left and the discounts obviously however, I am saving my money for the KA-50 and A-10C upgrades.

If ED explains further how this module looks and works, I will definatley consider however, at this point I'm a bit sceptical. Especially with how the F-16 hype release was when it came out.

Wrong way round. They're not charging a lot then trying to justify it. They're investing a lot in talented people with specialist knowledge to develop a sim to a level never before seen and charging accordingly.

This isn't a market to get into if you're looking to make your fortune.

If you're pretty sure you're going to get it eventually anyway, no point waiting unless you don't have the funds at all. The 16 release annoyed the pants off me enough that I haven't flown it yet, but it's starting to get a feature set finally, and I guess it's funded a year of ED's jet team working on it and the Hornet rather than anything new...

Ugh.. can they put up a bundle for the Hornet + Supercarrier + Persian Gulf instead? I don't need another 33!

The 33 is more geared towards being combined with the Russian carrier that comes with the pack. And can't really be upset about the discount they are already offering for the super carrier..... Good value for what you are going to be able to experience with it.

Is anF/A-18C owner still eligible for the additional discount if their Hornet was a gift? Mine was a gift and the price still shows as $34.99 all the way to the final purchase page.

They addressed this situation via their discord channel, and said they are assessing it for a potential solution - but unknown where they are at in that process. I’d say stand by as an announcement is most likely incoming regarding your situation. I’m not a representative for Eagle Dynamics, so take it as an advisory.

how did you get it for $15?

A safe bet would be with ED miles added on top of the already existing discount.

Are you sure you're not confusing Bonus points...old system with miles..new rewards program?? I have bonus points left over...but these are not eligible on any new modules.

yeah that's likely the issue.

I had the same. Bonus points can only be used on products released prior to August 1, 2019. Straight from ED’s website, which I didn’t discover right away either. And they will expire, so make sure to use them up before that expiration date.
