razo+r
Look at the lenght of the tracer in comparsion with the guy. That's one giant laser beam. But then again, I haven't had the pleasure yet to shoot with tracers. Maybe someone with real life experience can comment on this?
Shimmergloom667
It's been a few years since I shot tracers at night, but: tracers IRL are humungous. It's a glowing bullet going a few hundred meters / second that draws a loooong line on your retina. That screenie actually looks too short. i7 - 9700K | 32 GB DDR4 3200 | RTX 2080 | VKB Gunfighter Mk II /w MCG Pro | Virpil T-50CM2 Throttle | TrackIR 5 | VKB Mk. delevero
I think it is as it is due to gameplay reasons. I imagine it have something to do with visibility when "bullet" is flying and the ability to see this from a plane. But yes tracers do look like they ave a "long tail" in real life as well and if you pause this video you will also see a long tail after the bullet. razo+r
Is the length also caliber related or only depending on speed?
Shimmergloom667
Is the length also caliber related or only depending on speed? You won't be able to discern much difference between small arms calibers. Whenever we shot 5,56 and 7,62 they pretty much looked the same at night. i7 - 9700K | 32 GB DDR4 3200 | RTX 2080 | VKB Gunfighter Mk II /w MCG Pro | Virpil T-50CM2 Throttle | TrackIR 5 | VKB Mk. razo+r
Okay, sounds logical. And then what about this APFSDS here, which also is a tracer round I assume (left of the tallest tree in the middle)? Of course DCS models them differently. This one has an actual model of the round, whereas the small caliber only have the tracer texture.
razo+r
Maybe ED should update the smaller calibers like they did with the larger ones. Instead of having a red texture, maybe put a bullet with a red dot on the texture, or at a much later stage put a model of the bullet in just like they did with the APFSDS example above. FragBum
The is also be a difference in how a camera captures a tracer round compared to the eye. The eye will have a bit of persistence (image retention) especially against a dark environment compared to a camera. Control is an illusion which usually shatters at the least expected moment. Gazelle Mini-gun version is endorphins with rotors. See above.
