ny3d1
I have a question regarding the F-15 Eagle. I have noticed that the air intakes on some models are not the same. Some face slightly downwards about 10 degree and other models are straight, facing forward. Is there a reason for this??
draconus
They are independent for each engine, movable parts depending on the angle of attack, Mach number, etc. to feed the engines with optimum subsonic flow of air. Look at them during engine start to see for yourself. mvsgas
Short answer: they move. Long answer; Located on the outboard sides of the aircraft center fuselage, the F- 15C/D has an automatic independent air induction system (fig. 18-2) for each engine. The air induction system is comprised of first, second, third, and diffuser ramps; airflow bypass door; three actuators; an air inlet control (AIC), bleed air exit louvers, and foreign object screens. During engine operation, the first ramp pivots up and down to vary the inlet opening according to engine air requirements. The AIC automatically controls ramp movement and geometric size of the air intake passageway. https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=57574 https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=21166 https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=187306 https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=117260 https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=52536 Edited August 9, 2018 by mvsgas To whom it may concern, I am an idiot, unfortunately for the world, I have a internet connection and a fondness for beer....apologies for that. Thank you for you patience. Many people don't want the truth, they want constant reassurance that whatever misconception/fallacies they believe in are true..
