Questions to the 2. picture:

- This airfield in Normandy or South England?

and

Is this airfield fixed on the map or one of the new ones placed in the mission editor?

Not sure is anyone paid attention to the screens...

To be sure: now we have a group of warehouses and system that supplying airfields with fuel and armament. The only problem here is that system don't use real trucks and trains for supply convoys. And this I would like to change.

You are using the warehouse system already in DCS, or a new system? Just asking, because I never have seen a mission which is using the current warehouse system and was asking myself if it is not working correct or not very useful to limit availability of weapons?

These latest images look like they have the new (2.5) lighting system. Would I be correct in thinking that?

That would be hugely disappointing! It would also go against information in previous thread posts, including requests for airfield location information.

I think I am going to have to start managing my expectations by the sounds of it :(

OMG.... I have known that map is coming but didn't even think anything else from it as I am not interested from WW2 era and I always just linked it to WW2 vehicles.

But now.... Seeing that just made me realize that is just amazing map for a helicopters!

I so hope that all airfields would be transformed to mission editor addition ones.

By default the airfields would be located as real ones, but in mission editor we could remove them, move them or add new ones as we please.

This would of course mean that the manuals would only apply to official airfields locations, but otherwise all information of airfields would be dynamic so they change based the locations (or then just have airfields On/Off).

This would allow to make a unique missions where same terrain is used but to create totally different "world".

A Normandy map likely would fit very well to that kind system as there isn't such mountains like Caucasus, so more "flat terrain" and more unique "worlds".

Racoon, can we please have a sub forum with all the newsletters included? Despite my having subscribed to the newsletters I never get the email . I posted about this in the support thread but there was no reply. I am probably not the only person who would like the chance to read the newsletters online.

There has been talk of southern england up to around the London level, or maybe not quite that far. I can't imagine ED are building a map with future expansion for allied forces to fly from. Surely it would be one job?

Of course! It could mean carriers from which to launch Overlord! :surprise:

Remember, when this map was chosen by RRG, it was a smaller map as it was a learning curve for their map team. The new 3rd Party working on it pretty much picked up that same idea. It will be small initially but possible expansion in the future. I know there is already talk about the future of the map, so the initial release might be smaller than hoped, but right about the size that was planned initially.

OK, thanks for the info. Do we already have an insight into the territory envisaged? It would be interesting to know.

Looks like short missions then, with not a lot of meat on the bone. What a shame. No starting point for the invasion, no conserving your aircraft to get back home across the Channel.

Should be good for those that enjoy air-quake type stuff, but I was hoping for some proper WWII missions and airmanship challenges across a decent expanse of historic WWII geography.

I am now going into phase 2 of trying to manage and lower my expectations and not get too disappointed, but it is proving difficult.

I suppose I just have to accept that DCS is really about more modern aircraft and environments and that WWII is the poor relation in the bigger picture; at least that is what if feels like.

Nothing has ever really changed on what the map would be. This is more about getting units, and era specific game features into the sim. Once the initial map is in, I would assume expansion will come. If your expectations where higher than that, then you read into things that were never said.

Short, yes. 1 hour, no.

With an internal fuel capacity of 92 gallons and a Merlin 66 consumption of approx 35 - 88 gals/hr it could easily be stretched to about two hours on a quiet run. That's without slipper tanks. Flying from Southern coast airfields it could almost reach Germany although I doubt the map will stretch that far.
