Rollback DCS 1.5.7 to 1.5.6 temporarily after upgrade

Recommended Posts

Does DCS allow the update installation file to be saved without installing?

I do not think it is a single file but a bunch of them, DCS just swap them in after it downloads , the answer I think is no

You may have noticed that DCS 1.5.7 has big performance issues.

If you did the upgrade, following the automated process, you can easily rollback your DCS installation to the previous 1.5.6.5199 version.

Do the following:

1. Open a command prompt using the windows start menu option.

2. Using the command prompt, cd to the DCS installation folder. Go to the *bin* folder.

In my case that would be:

c:

cd "\program files\eagle dynamics\dcs world\bin"

3. Execute dcs_updater update 1.5.6.5199 in this folder.

This will rollback your DCS install.

here is a real life saver. I was really considering to just never touch the game until 1.58

I'm "Downgrading" to 1.5.6 . It's a shame. And it's especially a shame that same errors are repeated version after version one of those being integrity check blocking harmless mods that are community hard work and developer is just denying it all at the version introduction... I need clean canopy here in DCS to be able to see 1/2 of what can be spotted in real life and you just ban me off multiplayer completely for that?!... I hope server administrators revert to 1.5.6 also.

It would be easier to be able to run both a 1.5.6 and 1.5.7 server on

the same machine, but when you try to run a second copy it detects first copy

running and wont let you start it up

You CAN run a server and a client on the same machine.

There are two ways:

1. Using a virtual machine setup.

2. Setup a second user on you local machine.

Option 1 is less favourable because this has an impact on the performance of the server.

So, let's talk about Option 2. It is easy.

. - Create a new user.

. - Logon and download and install DCS but don't activate any license on this install.

. - Run dcs

. - Select multiplayer and run a mp mission.

Switch users.

. - Login with your normal user.

. - Run dcs with all your licenses.

. - Go multi player

. - Connect through IP 127.0.0.1

On the server Dcs, disable 3D rendering.

HAVE FUN!

Thanks for replying

I wasnt trying to run client + server of one machine

Was trying to server on 1.5.6 and server on 1.5.7 on the same machine

Launching one instance of dcs under windows account #1 works fine

Launching a second instance under windows account #2 fails ... because DCS only allows one running instance

Hey, am new, decided to give this game an go as was hankering for some modern air. I've got system specs that are at the minimum requirements for most part (cpu meets recommended requirements) so am not expecting the best with regards to graphics settings or frame rates. However I was seeing some strange-ness during precipitation that you can see in the attached screenshots. Contacted support who suggested to uninstall and reinstall my drivers and then closed the ticket. Though that did not sort the issue.

But I came across this thread when searching the forum for answers and on an whim followed the instructions and reverted to the 1.5.6 version. Then after that I no longer seem to see this graphical error anymore. :D Though going to do some more flights to confirm its gone. So basically saying thanks for writing this thread. Maybe I ought to look elsewhere for my modern air fix though given my system specs.

EDIT: Still not reproduced the issue in 1.5.6. Support are back on the case.

For anyone that might interested be below are two videos, one showing my system using 1.5.6, the other showing my system using 1.5.7.

  • 4 weeks later...

@ED

Can you please do a product release rollback to 1.5.6?

(yes, revert the install of every customer back to 1.5.6).

And run 1.5.7 in beta until all performance issues are fixed?

You would have my full support to test put in beta.

How long has 1.5.7 been in beta?

These performance problems are going on too long now.

  • ED Team

Guys, there will be no roll back, if you want to roll back yourself, feel free to, plenty of guides on here.

Not everyone or every mission is having these problems. ED is looking into the ones that are.

1.5 is a dinosaur soon to be extinct, I look forward to its demise.
