A-10C From Steam to DCSW (No previous A-10C install)

Recommended Posts

Edit 2:

If you are having this same problem, these steps should solve it for you.

I've also had no luck with the support tickets, however i have managed to activate my A-10c module at last, the following is how i managed to get it running, your results may not be the same but i really hope they are.

1. I had my serial registered to an online account, done by signing into multiplayer on DCS A-10c 1.1.1.1 (steam or stand alone) (i don't think this actually matters but for sake of consistency its mentioned)

2. Deactivated DCS A-10c 1.1.1.1 via the support program in its bin folder (protect.exe) then used the registry clearing fix.

3. I uninstalled DCSW World (this had previously been patched)

4. Installed DCSW 1.2.4.12913 (downloaded via the torrent method)

5. Installed the A-10C 1.2.4.12913 module. (downloaded via the normal download method)

6. Do not allow DCSW to patch.

7. Launched the multiplayer DCSW (this asks for an activation right away)

8. entered my serial and pressed activate, success! :D (note you might get a failed to reach activation server, in that case use the alternative method, via webpage)

9. I closed DCSW multiplayer and launched the single player, allowed it to patch then launched a mission with the A-10C and all was working as it should.

Best of luck to anyone else out there with a similar problem, this is the actions that allowed me to activate, I hope this is a trend and not me stumbling into luck.

If this is the case the latest update is not accepting Steam keys, and as such i'd keep a hold of the installers for 1.2.4.12913 just in case. A future patch will hopefully solve the whole problem in the first place.

Here is just a little more information on my experience using RedKite's fix.

I still have the 1.2.4.12913 torrent so I will give this a try and post back with my results.

Edit:

After step 4 I:

  • Launched DCSW
  • Didn't update
  • Went to module manager and a pop up window prompted me to download A-10C (first time that has happened)
  • After A-10C downloaded and DCSW main screen loaded back up I went to multiplayer
  • It asked to activate Warthog 64bit.
  • I put in Steam CD-Key
  • Automatic activation failed twice
  • clicked activate by other means (proactive.star-force.com/2.0/activate.php)
  • Once I got my activation key I was prompted at the multiplayer screen to log into my account
  • Logged in
  • Exited multiplayer
  • I checked module manager and A-10C is listed with serial number.
  • Success!!!

Edit:

As of today I haven't heard anything from support for a week. Reading about some people going months with unresolved issues is making me nervous. My ticket number is 23810 btw. I hope something is being done about this, looking through the forums I see I am not the only one having this problem so I am assuming this is not just going to get swept under the rug.

Original:

Ok, I am having trouble with my activation for A-10C.

I have downloaded DCS World 1.2.4 (5.73 Gb). (Also from inside DCSW I downloaded the Su-25T training missions)

I then downloaded the A-10C Warthog 1.2.4 module from the website (1.05 Gb).

I then purchased A-10C from Steam. I didn't download it on Steam but instead immediately copied the CD-Key and launched DCS World.

I then went to module manager, and clicked on install for the A-10C and it then downloaded 2 updates, one that was I think 1.6 Mb, and the other was around 320 Mb.

Now when I click on training, or any of the A-10C missions it brings up the activation box. When I paste the CD-Key into the box it says its an invalid serial number, and when I click on the link at the bottom of the text box that says, I already have an Activation Key it tells me to enter a valid serial number.

Where do I find the serial number from the Steam version, as it is obviously not the same thing as the CD-Key. Please help.

Also, do I need that 1.05 Gb A-10C file, or was that 320Mb update actually the A-10C module for DCSW?

Thank you!

Can you tell me the full error message from the activation window? Also, do you have any other modue installed? You can doublecheck what is being asked for in the top left of the activation window, like so:

attachment.php?attachmentid=84383&d=1372723983

And yes, the module installer you downloaded is A-10C. Effectively you have downloaded it twice. The installer is bigger because it contains several language versions.

I have a very similiar problem. I also bought the game from steam, but I started the steam version before installing DCSW and the A10C module. The steam version works fine (duh), but DCSW version won't authenticate and I keep getting this screen:

Please try this: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=94531

It is not the exact same problem, but the same fix usually works.

I'm currently downloading the 1.2.5 update which will take some time due to slow internet. But I wanted to reply so you didn't think I abandoned this thread.

I have only downloaded DCS World, the Su-25T Training missions, and the A-10C module.

Since I'm updating I'm unable to get the exact error message (will post back with that when I can).

I also opened a support ticket and the advice I got was to try running the Steam version first, which I was hoping to avoid because of the aforementioned slow internet. Lol.

And thank you for the information about the separate installer.

Ok, my update stopped responding halfway through so I canceled it and was able to get a couple screen grabs. I think I've pieced together that I need a serial number, but I don't know how to get that from the Steam version. I only know how to get the CD-Key. Which I have tried to put in place of the serial number on the first image, and I get the error seen in the second image.

Ok, downloaded the 1.2.5 update and was having the same problems.

So I downloaded the Steam version, and ran it as per my ticket suggestion and that ran its automatic activation.

Now when I try to run the DCS World version the CD-Key for A-10C is automatically placed in the Activation window, however I am receiving a new error.

Hi PandaSteak.

Maybe you could try to remove the registry keys - it seems you may have changed some hardware, but the system is unable to re-calculate the hardware code.

1. Start regedit.

2. Browse to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Eagle Dynamics

3. Remove the whole "Warthog" key folder. This will reset the hardware code.

4. Re-run activation again, enter the Serial Number.

PS, there may be some other method to do this, if someone else remembers how, please update us on how to do just that.

Hello, I haven't changed any hardware. I just bought the game and have yet to even play it because of these errors.

I have tried running the registry file fixes found at this link and that puts me back to my original error saying my serial number is not correct.

I've been following this thread a few days, i've got pretty much the exact same problem, got DCS a-10 on the steam sale.

Heres my findings so far:

The steam version installs and works as expected

I've been able to install the 1.1.1.1 standalone version (downloaded from dcs site) (without steam) and register my key with that no problem.

If i try to activate DCS world with 1.1.1.1 activated (steam or stand alone) it will tell me invalid hardware code.

If i try to activate with the above Registry fix (or normal deactivation) to remove the activation on 1.1.1.1 im told my serial code is invalid.

I have managed to register my serial code to my account(signed into multiplayer on 1.1.1.1, and in dcs world the serial number shows up on the module manager.

So far ive not had any luck in getting dcs world to activate either.

The problem as best i can tell has nothing to do with logging into multiplayer, i've followed this method and come across the same problems mentioned above.

The problem is i cannot activate the game to play it in even singleplayer on dcs world, i've successfully logged into multiplayer on 1.1.1.1 and that bound my key which after doing, my key appears in the dcs world a-10c module manager, again however that had no effect on allowing me to activate the a-10c module

Im getting the impression the most recent batch of keys on steam are in some fashion no good with dcs world.

to make it clear - the above method has nothing to do with multiplayer. It's a bit incorrectly named thread.

It's how it was activation worked previously (in MP only).

So please try the method. :)

Unfortunately thats not useful, ive been through it twice now, it doesn't effect the activation problem. Unless i've missed something major.

Logging into the serial number manager on the website my key is listed, and the product "[D] DCS: A-10C Warthog"

In DCS A-10C 1.1.1.1 i can launch the game, activate it and log into multiplayer no problems, by doing this I've bound my key to my account, and in theory can play multiplayer if there were any servers to join, i can also play single player.

However the problem is with the DCS World A-10C module, i can start the game look in the module manager and see my key listed for the A-10c. when i try to launch a mission with the a-10c it asks for me to activate A-10c. this is where the problems start.

if i launch the multiplayer part of DCS world it will ask for activation and i wont be able to, same as when i attempt to launch a mission in singleplayer.

However in multiplayer if i repeatedly fail the activation it gives up and launches the multiplayer part where i can then log in and join a server, from there i can only spawn in as the free Su-25, if i try to spawn as an a-10c it wont progress to the flight scene.

So to clarify:

1. launches DCS World

2. Looked in module manager, show key, my key is visible and matches

3. Go to missions, start an a-10c mission, front end closes

4. Activation prompt comes up:

if A-10C 1.1.1.1 is installed and activated, serial key is already in the box, i get invalid hardware code message.

if A-10C 1.1.1.1 is not activated i enter the serial then i get the "the system requires the correct serial number", invalid serial code message. (note this message is the same as if i'd entered "please activate this time" into the serial code box)

5. un-able to activate, game loads and I'm a spectator.

If i repeat with this with the key unbound from the DCS website it all happens the same way apart from #2 where the serial code would be blank.

Bear in mind i dont get as far as the log in to dcs world prompt, before im hit with the activation requirement, i've only been able to bind the serial code to my dcs account via the stand alone 1.1.1.1 a-10c install.

As best i can tell the link is for people who are logging into dcs world with an account that doesn't have their key registered to them (and the game is already activated)

On a side note many thanks for the help you're providing, hope this helps you make any more suggestions, or tells you if i've missed something big

and sorry for the wall of text, trying to make things clear as i can :)

Slightly relieved to see others are having the exact same problem. I also edited my OP with my support ticket number.

On the Kerbal Space Program website the developers will write blogs if something that is affecting a lot of people comes up, as well as they release a weekly newsletter to keep in touch with the community. Is there anything like this for DCS?

This company is such ****ing bull. It's obvious that many people are having the same exact problem. And absolutely no help. Just a forum moderator telling us to go to the same two links repetitively. I either want a new serial code that I can use to play the game that I BOUGHT or a ****ing refund because this is simply terrible.

  • Logged in

  • I checked module manager and A-10C is listed with serial number.
  • Success!!!

It looks like the key factor here is launching the multiplayer component of the Steam version of A-10C and logging into your DCS online account and then proceeding to transfer it to DCSW. Mods should make mention of that instead of just telling people to run the steam version.

I'm currently updating to 1.2.5 which will take the rest of the night, but so far so good. If the update screws it up I'll post back here.

Thanks Redkite and everyone who tried to help!

Now I just need to work on configuring my X52Pro. :joystick::huh:

I'm pretty confident that the 1.2.5 patch doesn't agree with steam keys (i had in 1.2.5 my a-10c key listed in modules but still couldn't activate)

Like i mentioned above the only combination of events I've succeeded with was to activate on 1.2.4 and then patch up to 1.2.5

This also appears to be the case in the following thread

http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=110330

At any rate glad to hear you've got it running, might i suggest updating the first post with our combined information to make it easier for others to find. (and if able, mark the thread as "solved")

:)

In addition if anyone else succeeds in activating via this method please post so here, hopefully this can help the devs find the problem and if nothing else at least help the community.

i have these exact problems with the dvdbox version of a-10c, i think ill wait for developers to patch this. seems too much work uninstalling 1.2.5 and then installing 1.2.4.12913 and so worth..... ill stick to singleplayer (1.1.1.1) for the time this is FIXED because it gives me gray hairs.

tried regfix and all the other tricks, but all it did was cost me few activation keys and the loss of my configurations and logbook, sweet!

yes, its getting frustrating. i would like to see a patch that fixes things. and not some regedit and other tricks... waste of activations so far!

I have a dvd version installed 1.1.1.1. works fine,

downloaded DCS world (1.2.5) and A-10C module (1.2.5), and it wont allow me to active no matter what i try.
