Interesting that you are hitting 498 CB20 single thread, mine is also 498-500 single thread, but I’m showing much lower single core boost. Maybe it’s just something to do with the reporting software, maybe I’m actually boosting the way I should?

That being said, most reviews were in the 520-550 range...

Ryzen 7 5800X3D / Asus Crosshair VI Hero X370 / Corsair H110i / Sapphire Nitro+ 6800XT / 32Gb G.Skill TridentZ 3200 / Samsung 980 Pro M.2 / Virpil Warbrd base + VFX and TM grips / Virpil CM3 Throttle / Saitek Pro Combat pedals / Reverb G2

the reviews are all over the place. BIOSes are all over the place. Reporting software are all over the place. Everything is all over the place regarding Ryzen.

I wouldn't worry too much until we get better BIOS. Its been a train wreck of a launch as usual.

Some info or better, test results, about that difference in Boost Clock.

Der 8auer published a video about the AMD Ryzen 3000 Boost clock issue.

The video is in german but the Google sheet he published is english as well.

Basically, he wants your help to find the actual Ryzen Boost behavior.

To take part in the test, you need a Ryzen 3000 chip, Win10 with all updates + 1903, HWinfo, Cinebench R15, Bios defaults, etc etc... all in that sheet.

So, if you own a Ryzen 3000 chip and want to help, this is it.

* in the german video he says he got contacted by AMD about the issue,,,bla bla...and AMD changed the CPU description as far as it may not always under all workloads reach the advertised Turbo....ehhhhhhh LoL

https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScrtHk-YUlploicyuVpkd9tzwRuE3F1QNfIQHNgL6CNXwpy5w/viewform

Have fun testing...

the actual video is here ( german ):

Juding by the posts on reddit and few other places people are really unhappy as chips cant reach advertised clocks under normal usage, which combined with BIOS issues, gives a messy launch. I feel like AMD may end up with a lawsuit from customers going after them for false advertising.

I’m going to give them some time to sort out BIOS, but if I don’t get better boost frequencies within my 1 year warranty I will be RMAing.

Old setup:

CPU: i5 3570k OC (boosts up to 4.2GHz)
RAM: 24GB DDR3-1866 (CL 10-11-10)
GPU (same): Gigabyte GTX 1060 6GB

New setup:

CPU: Ryzen 3700x Stock (boosts to 4.3GHz+)
RAM: 32GB DDR4-3600 (CL 17-19-19)
GPU (same): Gigabyte GTX 1060 6GB

Game settings:

Resolution: 2560x1440
Everything on minimum or off if possible, except the following:
Textures – High, Terrain Textures – High, Visib. range - high,
Res. Of cockpit Displays: 1024EF, Preload raidus: 60500,
Anisotropic filtering: 16x,[x] Full Screen, [x] Scale GUI

Reshade: Default Lumasharpen and HDR effects on.

attachment.php?attachmentid=214129&stc=1&d=1563798700

As you can see I’m probably (and hopefully) GPU bottlenecked, and difference between 6 y.o. setup is not big.

The way I measured it is I recorded a track(Caucasus map), where your location gets shot by MLRS after some time (which causes fps drop). Camera motions and plane motions in the track are the same (or close to being so I hope). All I did after is played track 3 times and averaged the values (I start playing the track by pressing pause and about half second later I press the button to record benchmark data with MSI afterburner for 3m:16s). I will attach the track I used (you need su-25A or flaming cliffs 3 to play it).

In first day of installation 3700x performance was actually worse in 1% lows by 10 fps, but today Ryzen gods had mercy and made it slightly better.

Heres my imput with same conditions:

attachment.php?attachmentid=216103&stc=1&d=1566665433

Look what happens when DackSter94 changed from a 1060 to a 2070 Super on his 3700X (both results shown).

Conclusion: You can clearly see that the average FPS scales linearly with GPU (1080Ti is nearly 2X 1060 and 25% faster than 1080), 0.1% FPS may be linked to CPU providing no other bottleneck is introduced (like RAM shortage).

If you have a modern CPU, a good GPU is more important.

Bear in mind that when VULKAN implementation is complete it may change alot, for example by making DCS use more cores.

Pilotasso, can you make similar one showing just 2700X vs 3900X ? I'm very interested in ingame performance of 3900X vs 2700X and if it was an upgrade worth making.

Unfortunately did not test the 2700X fully, not in DCS. I removed the 2700X and placed the 3900X immediately in. The 2700X is already gone as I put it for sale.

I should have anticipated the tests but I guessed wrong that the order was only going thru in September.

who am I kidding? Sorry my flesh was weak

EDIT: Based on what I found in yesterdays testing and you can see the graph: for all modern CPU's performance scales linearly with GPU power. I did not notice much of an improvement in DCS. My empirical testing says that mechwarrior online did improve alot with the low frame rates while busy battles and under fire as that title is horribly optimized and runs on single core. Did not test star citizen yet.

Disclaimer: I did not buy a 3900X for logical or technical reasons, not even for sane reasons (even considering I did get a huge boost in other applications). :D It was mostly for fun.

Sadly I will have to quit upgrading parts every year. I have a 16 year old car that I need replace next year and riding that POS was one of the sacrifices I did to fund this hobby.

Hardware got powerful. Its time for the software to catch up and utilize resources properly. DCS, when it transitions to Vulkan some day, should make much better use of those cores.

I have a 1700 3.8ghz worth to upgrade to reyzen 3900x?

That does heavily depend on your GPU !

With a 1080 or better there should be some gains, with a 1060 they will be hard to find.

ssd500gb 16gb ram 3000mhz 1080ti that is my build

I had same CPU and still have the same GPU and it's fine for DCS. I would only change RAM to 32Gb if multiplayer is your thing too. 16 is fine for solo, but short for multi.

  • 6 months later...
;4232396']Ich stehe jetzt vor der Wahl' date=' 3700X oder 3900X. Der Preisunterschied ist ca. 180, aktuell würde das jedoch keinen großen Unterschied in DCS machen, richtig?[/quote']

The cores won't really matter for now but the 200MHz difference on Base and Turbo clock might give you some extra performance.

The 3800x is an option too, clock wise.
