Performance improvement

I have a question: I have a laptop with the following specs: Intel Core I7 6700HQ@2,6Ghz, 8 GB of ram and a Geforce GTX 960m with 2 GB of ram and no SSD. I experience some performance problems with this system in DCS. So I am thinking about buying a desktop with the following specs: Intel Core i5-7400 (3,0 GHz), 16 GB of ram, a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 (3GB), 256 GB SSD & 1 TB harddisk.

Can I expect a significant performance improvement with this new system when flying the Viggen in DCS?

you will have better performance in all games not only in dcs.

but if you just save some more money and go for an i7 it would be so nice.

SSD will improve your pc speed and loading time etc.

and the new generation of graphics are amazing "series 10"

Yes. Compared to your laptop the performance improvement will be huge.

Current specs: Windows 10 Home 64bit, i5-9600K @ 3.7 Ghz, 32GB DDR4 RAM, 1TB Samsung EVO 860 M.2 SSD, GAINWARD RTX2060 6GB, Oculus Rift S, MS FFB2 Sidewinder + Warthog Throttle Quadrant, Saitek Pro rudder pedals.

Like the others have said, this will be much better system than your laptop. If you can stretch the budget get the best CPU you can afford in the system you listed if you can upgrade? Intel Core i5-7400 cpubenchmark.net

The system you listed with a better CPU would really fly, something like a Intel Core i7 6700K. They cost 100 or more then Intel Core i5-7400 tho.

Intel Core i7-6700K @ 4.00GHz

Good Compromise? Intel Core i5-7600K @ 3.80GHz (4.2GHz Turbo)

Plus it's the K chip so you might want to slightly overclock the cpu.

i7-7700K OC @ 5Ghz | ASUS IX Hero MB | ASUS GTX 1080 Ti STRIX | 32GB Corsair 3000Mhz | Corsair H100i V2 Radiator | Samsung 960 EVO M.2 NVMe 500G SSD | Samsung 850 EVO 500G SSD | Corsair HX850i Platinum 850W | Oculus Rift | ASUS PG278Q 27-inch, 2560 x 1440, G-SYNC, 144Hz, 1ms | VKB Gunfighter Pro

Thanks for the input! I can't save more money for a better cpu because I need a new PC fast! ;) My laptop has some issues playing DCS (stuttering, freezing etc.). And because I love the sim I want a new one as fast as possible. Besides that we are planning to buy a new home so my financials are critic atm. ;)

Thanks for all the advise. Have ordered a new system: Intel Core i7-7700 (3,6 GHz), 16 GB of ram, a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 (6GB), 240 GB SSD & 1 TB harddisk. I also got 2 second-hand displays for free today, so I am looking forward to get my PC next week!

Personally I'd say that the i5 7600k or i5 6600k would give the most for your money compared to the i7 6700k or 7700k for most games. Though the i7 ones are better in terms of raw performance.

+1. Get the i5, and invest the saved money in a better GPU or SSD. I don't get all of the advices for CPU. i5 and 1070 will run much better than i7 and 1060. When it comes for 3D games a good, modern CPU and the best GPU as budget allows will always give better results then a worse GPU and the best CPU.

F/A-18, F-16, F-14, M-2000C, A-10C, AV-8B, AJS-37 Viggen, F-5E-3, F-86F, MiG-21bis, MiG-15bis, L-39 Albatros, C-101 Aviojet, P-51D, Spitfire LF Mk. IX, Bf 109 4-K, UH-1H, Mi-8, Ka-50, NTTR, Normandy, Persian Gulf... and not enough time to fully enjoy it all
