D4n
It seems that TGP system in DCS (in this example Harrier) is limited to 8nm. Occured when lasing for F-18C players (mavericks), they could only acquire lock when TGP was quite close to target (see this post https://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=3684562&postcount=2 ) DCS Wishlist: 2K11 Krug SA-4 Ganef SAM, VR-TrackIR icons next to player names in score-chart PvP: 100+ manual player-kills with Stingers on a well known dynamic campaign server - 100+ VTOL FARP landings & 125+ hours AV-8B, F-14 crew, royal dutch airforce F-16C - PvP campaigns since 2013 DCS server-admins: please adhere to a common sense gaming industry policy as most server admins throughout the industry do. Dagger71
It's not a MP issue. Its the limit in DCS (as Jojo satted) Although I thought it was 10nm, but regardless, there needs to be a limit (as actual RL limits are more then likely classified) and 8-10nm seems very reasonable. D4n
I'd say it's more reasonable that a up-to-110.000 $ AGM-65 can detect a laser beam from 12nm or more, even when TGP is 8nm from target. (that was our test case with Harrier lasing for F-18C, yes we had same laser codes and laser was fired in "LASR" mode.) According to wiki, max range of AGM 65 E is 12nm in perfect condition. In DCS it's probably in the 8-10nm region.
Dagger71
Just for reference: https://fas.org/man/dod-101/sys/smart/agm-65.htm The Maverick E Used in conjunction with ground or airborne laser designators, the missile seeker, searches a sector 7 miles across and over 10 miles ahead. If the missile loses laser spot it goes ballistic and flies up and over target -- the warhead does not explode, but becomes a dud. Range: 17+ miles (12 nautical miles/27 km)
D4n
"perfect condition" meaning launched from 20k ft? :P ah thanks for link. Dagger71
no, perfect condition means everything must be perfect: Altitude, LOS, temperature, baro, right down to the air quality at surface. Not modeled in DCS.
