Over The Hump Takeoff Issues.

Hello, everyone! I thought this would be a better place to put this, as it seems more active. Anyways, as I posted here: https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=204195, I'm having some issues with crashing when taking off in the MiG-29S in the Over The Hump campaign. I've determined that it's not the SA-15 Tor, as there is no indication of it shooting in the debriefing, nor is it the birds, as I removed them, and I still explode. What is it? My one remaining idea is that it might be the grate over the engine intake (if it's even modelled in DCS), as I usually try to pull up at about 200km/h, and my successful takeoffs have been at ~250km/h.:helpsmilie:

When you say "crashing", are you falling out of the sky and dying when you hit the ground? Or is it that you are suddenly exploding while airborne?

I suspect it's the former, since you are seriously under speed, or seem to be, based on what you stated for rotation and takeoff speeds. In an effort to see what the issue might be, I just took off and flew to the first WP in the first 7 missions without a single issue (I just didn't have it in me to do it for #8 as well). My rotation speed was usually around 280-290 and established a positive rate of climb at 300+. Gear up immediately after. I've attached a track of Mission 7's takeoff as a reference. (I hadn't bothered to start my TrackIR, so I'm using the mouse to look around.)

Hmm...Good idea, except that my jet gets pelted, like it's being shot, and one time I managed a takeoff, but not before losing the right rear tail plane.

I think you're tail-striking (as Baz suggests). At the too low takeoff speeds you're using, you have to increase your AoA so high to get enough lift that your pitch is too extreme. Try not rotating until you reach 290. See if the "pelting" stops.

Alright, I'll try that whenever I do the campaign again. I did manage to takeoff successfully enough to complete it. In the Su-27, I usually like to begin pulling up at ~230km/h, as I don't like to remain on the ground long enough to blow my tires. This usually gets me into the air at ~270km/h. I'll try doing the same in the MiG-29S, though, being lighter and accelerating faster, I imagine I'll be in the air at closer to ~250km/h.

:) 230 for the Su-27? Geesh. If it works, I guess. Are you using afterburner? Just for chuckles, try this, instead. Forget the afterburner. I know everone loves the roar and the kick in the pants but try taking off with full mil instead. Saves fuel that you might need later and also makes it easier to keep up with the aircraft. Full mil power. Rotate at 280 to 10° AoA. Positive rate of climb. Wheels up.
