Some touchscreen advice

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I was wondering if anyone could assist with some knowledge on touchscreens (small ones).

I want to make the F/A-18C UFC:

I also fly other aircraft so a touchscreen will allow me to use a Helios A-10C UFC and the AV8 and others...

I have seen these "Raspberry Pi" screens:

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/7-Inch-LCD-Touch-Screen-HDMI-Display-800-480-Raspberry-Pi-3-2-eParcel-Sydney-/152417203320?epid=886559743&hash=item237cc5f478:g:lRYAAOSw5cNYkBLH

Can these be used as plug and play HDMI monitors which I could use Helios or similar or would I need a Pi and some software?

I have also seen a lot of cheap kids androids:

I think the plastic case would look great in my cockpit.

What would I need to do to use the Android as an input device and receive the data from the sim for the displays?

Any other ideas, I am trying not to spend AUD $300 on a MIMO.

I looked at this not that long ago. Every single ipad app for screen extending I've used requires about 25% CPU on the host PC to encode and stream the virtual 2nd monitor to the ipad.

I came to the conclusion that a second touchscreen monitor was the way to go.

I got this to try: https://www.aliexpress.com/store/product/Raspberry-Pi-10-1-inch-1024x600-Capacitive-Touch-Screen-LCD-Support-Multi-mini-PCs-Multi-Systems/216233_32624101071.html?spm=2114.12010612.0.0.40802956eRHkCM

But there was a problem in that whenever you touched it the mouse cursor would immediately skip to that touch point - it looked like it was some sort of weird mouse emulation, rather than a true touch interface, from the description:

  • When work as a computer monitor, supports Windows 10/8.1/8/7/XP, single touch, and driver free

Now i believe (and guess) that this was what I really should have got:

https://www.aliexpress.com/store/product/Waveshare-Newest-IPS-Display1280-800-10-1inch-Touch-Screen-LCD-with-Case-for-Multi-mini-PCs/216233_32679734462.html?spm=2114.12010612.0.0.40802956eRHkCM

  • When work as a computer monitor, supports Windows 10/8.1/8/7, ten-points touch, and driver free

My research indicated that Windows 10 with a proper multi-touch display will work how I want it to - but that is as far as I got.

What if you have 16 processor cores?

Asus ROG C6H | AMD Ryzen 3600 @ 4.2Ghz | Gigabyte Aorus Waterforce WB 1080ti | 32Gb Crucial DDR4/3600 | 2Tb Intel NVMe drive | Samsung Odyssey+ VR | Thrustmaster Warthog | Saitek pedals | Custom geothermal cooling loop with a homemade 40' copper heat exchanger 35' in the ground

You're right. Splashscreen turned DCS into a jittery mess. just moving the mouse caused screen flashing and the DCS menu to bleed through while in a mission. 3 cores ran at 50 -80 percent load just with the program running with nothing on the screen.

Had to try it though.
