Search and destroy advanced fighters unlock

There's a problem with the Mirages and MiG-29's in the mission search and destroy

Essentially, it's too much effort for the reward

You have to fly 180nm for blue, or 230nm for red, in a slow fighter that can do roughly 0.9 mach tops. This takes a LOT of time just to unlock that

On top of that, the missiles are only available at those airbases that are 230nm for blue and 220nm for red to the target area

If someone wants to unlock the mirage/mig-29 with missiles, they have to fly their korea era plane for some 30min, and then spend another 30min every sortie just to make it to the area with any sort of respectable payload, and another 30 min flying back if you lived

For the 1st sortie, that's roughly an 1 hour and 30 min from F-86/MiG-15 takeoff to Mirage/MiG-29 landing, and roughly an hour every other sortie, and that excludes time on station, which won't be long, due to how much fuel you need to get there and back

I understand that those aircraft are very powerful, but this just takes too much time to be worth it

I think the "Prince of Persia" mission has a good setup, and while I know there are no bases closer to the AO for both coalitions, I think another solution might be better

Here's an alternative to how it could be set up:

Have the mirages take off from the same airbases as other aircraft, and/or change the unlocking method

This could be slinging a crate like with other mission, flying it some 40-50nm in order to unlock the mirage slots, or escorting/destroying some units, or capturing an objective, or literally anything that doesn't take so long to accomplish

This would mean that the slots that are available from the start would need to be removed, but it would hardly be detremental.

It would also remove the possibility of players flying to that airbase with a plane from main base, effectively bypassing limited number of planes

At this moment, it simply isnt worth unlocking those planes

If the time to unlock and get to the AO was much closer to what we see in the "Prince of Persia" mission, they would be actually significant again

The Fulcrum and the Mirage are inaccurate yet deliberately added replicas of the Flogger and the Phantom. I only added them to offer Fishbed and Tiger pilots a new challenge even if limited and limited they should be.

You can unlock these advanced jets in Prince of Persia, Open Range and Search & Destroy. Only in the latter it is a painful task to do so and I'm aware of that. Can't move the airbases around. There are no other airbases and having the two spawn at the main airbases would give Fishbeds access to R-60M's. Which is why I thought about removing them from the mission. Then I thought, why bother. Just leave them. The weapons' restrictions brought additional restrictions with them it would seem. Something I can live with because the Fishbed and the Tiger were, are and always will be my main concern on this server. The rest of the modules gets to be invited to the party occasionally or kicked out of it if they bring some illegal items along with them. There were reports of A-10C's smuggling some advanced systems onboard, fancy countermeasures and all that. Not on my party! An order to stay away from the house had to be initiated. Now it's back as an A-10A. Polite to the Fishbed, not too flashy and quite charming as of late. The Su-25T created a massacure with its R-73's. Some Tiger guests started complaining and maybe rightfully so I had to trim it down to a Su-25A. Now the Tiger can easily dance with it and enjoy his party. They'll get along. The Harrier on the other hand is one step away from being thrown out as well. Only waiting on a special party guest to replace it. Not sure why it's taking him so long to finally arrive and show some new dance moves spicing up the party a little bit. The A-4 has been around for a while but was never allowed in. Big boss refused to give it a visa so I can't let it in, although I would love to.

I think a more suitable combo would be the 1978 Flogger-G MLA (which is on it’s way) and the 1970 F14A Tomcat. The Tomcat should obviously have the Phoenix missiles removed.

Server News:

- The missions Battle Over Sukhumi Unleashed and Five Points Unleashed will be removed from the server during the day.

- In the mission Search & Destroy the 10 x MiG-29A's and the 10 x M-2000C's will be available automatically 1 hour after mission start.

- Therefore, no activation from the MiG-15/F-86 is required.

How do Huey's navigate their way to certain areas? Is it the UHF AN/ARC-51 system they use for that?

I need this information for the mission I'm currently working on.

We took out the last EWR station on Desert has Eyes (which was announced a few times on the top of the screen saying that the Blue would win if Destroyed).

When all the units were taken out on the last Red EWR a message popped up saying that the last remaining station has been destroyed.

Mission did not rotate or message a final announcement.

The Huey can home in on a number of different radio signals

The ADF system, works much like in many other aircraft, will point the needle on the compass to the source of the signal

The VOR system works much like the ADF system, but it operates on a specific set of frequencies, used to navigate to airbases

Lastly, the Huey can home in onto a broadcast on FM radio. This can be used to navigate to small radio units, that can be carried by infantry or any other unit (i think)

Aside from radio navigation, it's worth keeping in mind that the pilot can navigate comparing the map with what he sees, and if all else fails, flying in a certain direction at a certain speed for a certain amount of time can also get you places if planned and executed correctly

It doesn't say "server will rotate..." or the like, so why expect it to happen?

The rotation in this mission was taken out due to a script failure caused by it if a coalition wins. This was announced some months ago. I'm rebuilding multiple things in the mission to find the problem.

Thanks for the input. However, the ARC-51 is the only thing a mission designer can touch in the mission editor.

Kneeboard and F10 map are all you need in DCS. No need for learning navigation instruments in details.

I would like to see shorter mission rotation times, I want to play Fight Island more often :lol:

By the way, don't know if that was what was discussed, but you can setup pseudo NDB/VOR stations for navigation, with the ME and some triggers.

In the mission "Sail ahoy" blue awacs lands some 30 min before mission restart. I'd assume runs out of fuel

He attacked the untaken aircraft on the main airport and was blocked by the server. He felt very guilty and apologized for his behavior, hoping to get forgiveness and to be unsealed to join the DCS cold war server again. ：哭：

He took off from friendly airbase Gudauta, turned back around and started strafing friendly units including players on the runway. He was warned multiple times but that's not necessary. You don't need to understand English or any language to know such behaviour is surely prohibited.

If you want to continue this conversation, by all means. However, I advice you and others to do it through private messaging to avoid any interference.

Trust me, the last thing I want is to ban players for a long time or permanently. No joy in doing that. But if I have to, I do it.
